Guest guest
I had my PD treatments done by Dr. Bitter's SF clinic on West Portal. It was a shared office b/n Bitter and an eye surgeon. Doesn't sound like this is the clinic to which you went. I remember talk of their moving location, so perhaps the West Portal clinic is no more. At any rate, I had a wonderful experience there, and found his staff (esp. the nurse who performed my treatments, ) to be highly skilled, professional, personable, and compassionate. --- Isett carriei@...> wrote: > i did not have one done, however i went to this > office for the free > consultation and was really turned off by the place. > i met with an > esthetician who had a very odd unhelpful attitude > and not only did not > really answer any of my questions, but really made > it clear that she was not > interested in having me ask any! > > i felt completely rushed in and out of the place. i > was very disapppointed > by the whole experience and left feeling that i > would not ever trust any of > that staff with a laser on my face! it was rather > bad... > > carrie > > > > > > Date: Thu, 17 Jan 2002 05:03:28 +0800 > > To: rosacea-support > > Subject: Photofacial Experience > > > > Group, > > > > Has anyone had photoderm/photofacial done at the > Epi Center MedSpa in San > > Francisco? Guest guest
Dear All, I did go to the Los Gatos office...and " consulted " with someone. She was more into the billing aspects and didn't know much beyond her script. She was not unpleasant however. I insisted on meeting with Dr. Bitter, Sr. himself....they were happy to oblige and scheduled a " consultation " with him...again, no charge. I must say, for all his great press, he did not impress me except with his obvious willingness to " do " procedures. I made appointments for him personally to do the work...but later cancelled as I decided that I would/should wait on the photoderm decision. As I now realize, I am a so-far mild case of rosacea...he should have shooed me off in my opinion.... but he didn't. I must say that the other doctors (one an eminent dermatologist at Stanford) don't seem to have a great deal of respect for him. They appear to view him as a laser-dollar-mill...not a " real " dermatologist. As another one said.... " Well, you can't go to him for treatment other than laser, so he is not really a dermatologist as far as I'm concerned. " For what it is worth. Guest guest
Yes, I have been seeing Dr. Bitter Sr. in Los Gatos for some time now. He and his staff have been beyond excellent to me. If you live in the Bay Area, it makes sense to travel to Los Gatos to see him, as Dr. Bitter is the most experienced and knowledgeable photoderm practitioner around. Also, I am impressed with Dr. Bitter because he constantly improves his technique by advancing his equipment and how he uses it. Guest guest
I had 5 done there, before they moved to their downtown SF location. This was last year and I found everyone there extremely helpful. I think that now they do so many for various skin issues that it has become robotic. Guest guest
I am appauled to hear such negative comments about Dr. Bitter, Sr. I have been seeing him for photoderm treatments since August and have nothing but positive things to say about him. He has dedicated himself and his practice to helping those suffering from disorders such as ours. Dr. Bitter has been in laser therapy for over thirty years, and in that time, has continued to lead the way by creating new advancements within the field. He has written several major journal articles regarding laser therapy, has patented a protocal for photoderm which allows patients to receive the greatest benefit possible to date, and will soon be offering a new approach to photoderm that will render all other methods obsolete. Regarding your comment about the other physican that had negative things to say about him. Well, he's the competition, right? I think its interesting that you went to a photoderm doctor when you felt that he should have, " shooed you off. " Clearly you wanted photoderm or you would not have gone to him. Additionally, photoderm is often utilized as a cosmetic procedure for those with mild cases and if you have rosacea, and you want it treated, thats a medically acceptable reason to have treatment administered. As a health care professional, I have yet to meet a physician that remains more current and up to date in his field, is kind and compassionate to his patients, takes pride in the services offered, and who has the one of the highest success rates. Guest guest
Hi Sallie, I was wondering if you discussed Photoderm/IPL as a treatment for rosacea in general with the derm from Stanford? I know Stanford does offer IPL for rosacea. I was just curious what his/her take on it was. Guest guest
Dear Tracey, I didn't feel my note contained " such negative comments " about Dr. Bitter, Sr....but, he certainly has a wonderful advocate in you. My comments were my experiences and my sense of it...along with the doctors' that I talked to about him. When I went to see him, I was very new in my rosacea diagnosis and I didn't know whether I should have photoderm as a preventative for future problems or what. He did not discuss my rosacea ....only the laser treatments. I asked him about my level of rosacea vis-a-vis photoderm and he basically shrugged his shoulders and said it was up to me. So...I didn't get much from him when I was expecting and needing his expert advice. So, you love him and have found help -- and I had an different experience for my different circumstances. Such is life. If I ever make the decision that I need photoderm, I will go to him as from all accounts he is the best technician in the field. Guest guest
Dear Matija, No...I didn't get into that discussion with my Stanford doc. I didn't know enough at that time (and maybe even now) to discuss or even think to ask about the various laser techniques. Guest guest
Dear Matija, No...I didn't get into that discussion with my Stanford doc. I didn't know enough at that time (and maybe even now) to discuss or even think to ask about the various laser techniques. Guest guest
I only wish I had seen a Dr. Bitter at his San Francisco office!! While he may be a caring doctor, the fact is he's not usually in his San Francisco office and the personnel there certainly did not strike me as fully informed caring medical people. On the contrary they seemed just the opposite! By the way, when I showed up for my consultation, the receptionist thought I was in for a microdermabrasion!! In fact if I had made an appointment to have a photoderm treatment after the consultation, the RN would have done it. I am fairly certain I never would have seen Bitter himself. If he is going to run several offices, then no matter how great a doctor he is himself, he has a responsibility to make sure the personnel he employs are up to the right standards. I don't think this thread really intended to be about criticizing Dr. Bitter and his work anyway, but commenting on our individual experiences at his San Francisco office. my two cents....... : )
Guest guest
I've been treating in Dr. Bitter's Los Gatos office for about 10 months. At the time of my initial consultation, I found the staff friendly and accommodating and had no problems getting answers to all my questions. I was also able to meet Dr. Bitter at that consultation and he sat down with me for 10-15 minutes, even though he was training other drs that day. The woman who does the initial consultations is the office manager. I do not think she has a medical background. It might be that, because your case was so mild, they thought you were merely window shopping and didn't want to invest too much time with you. Not to say that's a good thing, but I'm sure they get more than their share of window shoppers. I had a severe case of rosacea before starting treatments in their Los Gatos office. Throughout the course of my treatment, I have found his office to be helpful, understanding and sensitive. Dr. Bitter comes across as a compassionate individual and you get the sense he really doesn't do this just for the money. He always talks about how much these procedures are helping people. I would be leery of any doctor who puts down one of his peers in front of patients. This is extremely unprofessional. As far as not being a dermatologist; he doesn't advertise himself as a clinical dermatologist. He's a cosmetic dermatologist. Most patients don't go to him to be placed on the routine metro_ and tetracycline regimen. We go there to clean up what the traditional modalities failed to prevent.
