Guest guest
Hi Pearl, I know soy is bad, and I am trying to get rid of it. Found a yogourt maker today, so am going to make some and hopefully replace the milk/soy with a smoothie. Sharon

Guest guest
Welcome to the list Sharon and , >My son is severely developmentally delayed, has CP (spastic quad), CVI (cortically blind) and has uncontrolled seizures. We are waiting to start the Keto diet in April, but I am hoping the SCD will help him and perhaps we can avoid the Keto. >He is wheat/dairy free, but drinks 2 bottles a day with 3oz vanilla soy/5 oz. goat's milk. He cannot drink thin liquids - he chokes and gags. He was on Nutren (Pediasure-like) for a while (what a mess that made him - wicked tummy pains, gas etc) and is very accustomed to the vanilla milkshake flavour. It has taken me 2 months to get him on this ratio as I've been trying to get rid of the soy for a while. >He eats pureed homemade baby food, and I've eliminated rice cereal and sweet potatoes (his favorite). Either Butternut or buttercup squash may be good substitutes for the sweet potato. > The rest of the food he eats is legal, so that's not a problem >I bought what I thought would be a legal toothpaste for him today, said sugar free, but it has Xylitol. Arggh. $9 bucks down the drain! Does he swallow the toothpaste? If not, using a tiny amount, pea sized amount or less may be okay for him. I don't think anyone has found a completely legal toothpaste (but I could be wrong Some either skip the toothpaste altogether and just use water and a toothbrush or some make their own toothpaste. Here is a toothpaste recipe that was posted a couple of years back (from tte): 6 tsp. baking soda 1/3 tsp. salt 4 tsp. glycerin 12-13 drops peppermint of wintergreen extract Just mix and store at room temperature. >Anyway, I would love some advice on what he could drink, as well as a legal toothpaste. How about making yogurt smoothies. We add ripe bananas and honey. But just about any fruit can be added. If you need it a little thinner you can add water. If you need it thicker you can drip some of the yogurt to remove some of the fluid and tartness. The longer you leave the yogurt to drip the thicker and less tart it will be. Instructions on how to drip yogurt at http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/ Clicl on " beginners " then click on " SCD yogurt " then scroll down and click on " How to drip Yoghurt - Pictorial Guide " >Also, I went to 5 stores today and no yogurt makers!! Where to buy (we are in Toronto)?? has a g-tube but I still want him to drink by mouth. I only use the tube for meds/supplements (checked all those and they seem OK). You may be able to buy a Yogurmet yogurt maker staright from the company since they are in Quebec. I am in Newfoundland and once they receive my order my yogurt starter arrives in about 3-5 days. There site is http://www.lyo-san.ca/english/index.html There may be a phone number or you can email them at lyo-san@... Sorry this got so long ... Guest guest
Thanks Sheila, he loves butternut squash almost as much as sweet potatoe - he is an orange veggie boy! And yes, the laughing video was while brushing his teeth, the first bite on my finger I screamed and he started laughing, so I continued at my own peril as him laughing (once every 2 months or so) was worth it (after all I have 10 fingers, why be greedy?).
