Thanks for tips - & question about Aromatherapy

Just wanted to thank everyone for the advice and tips. I'm going to try

some of them, and see how it goes. Tonight actually went ok. She didn't

fight us very much. We went ahead and did it in her bed (like last night),

but with the lights off...just the light coming in from the hallway. I

wonder if maybe that helped calm her down, or if she was just in the mood to

cooperate. I dunno...but tonight was a lot better than last night.

Any of you ever do aromatherapy stuff in the room with your kids while doing

therapy? Did it help calm them down? Or should I avoid that sort of stuff

around her? I know some folks have problems with scented stuff (my mom and

sister are terribly allergic to most candles). I know it tends to calm me

down. Just thought about it.

Cigarette smoke sets mine off pretty bad...one reason I don't go to clubs or

concerts much anymore. I can do most candles and oils and incense, but some

folks' perfume will totally set me off. (You know, the folks who you can smell

coming from a quarter mile away...)

I'm sitting here imagining massage therapists running around freaking out about

incense...it's a funny mental image.

Did you finally manage to have a relaxing massage after they got all the incense

out?

Re: Thanks for tips - & question about Aromatherapy

Shanna,

The aromatherapy is a good idea. Lavender is gentle, quite calming and

has anti-inflammatory properties.

has used lavender when stressed out before final exams. Once he

tried it when he felt a cold coming on and said he felt much better.

Now he uses eucalyptus for stuffy sinuses and tea tree oil for

infections.

I empathize with your mom and sister. I'm fine around scented candles

and essential oils, but can't get anywhere near incense (or cigarette

smoke!). I went for a massage last month at this new place -- great

place except they liberally burn incense and it set off my asthma. To

make matters worse, the incense smelled exactly like what they used to

burn during services in the Catholic church so I was having negative

flashbacks to my childhood! Not at all a relaxing way to have a

massage, so the poor therapists were rushing around to extinguish

incense in all the rooms!
