Aimee,

Frequently, in this group, we talk about " alcohol " as

though it is all the same. I think this is because we

all accept the fact that alcohol can make anyone

flush, even a non-rosacean.

But alcohols are made with different base substances

and you can react if you are sensitive to one of them

-- because they are very concentrated forms of the

substance.

Since I don't know all of the ingredients of different

drinks, bear with some examples here: Some alcohols

are made with corn (whiskey), some with grapes (wine),

agave (tequila), barley (scotch, beer)

I'm allergic to wheat, rye, and barley. I don't react

at all to wine and I can also drink 100% potato vodka

(hard to find) and 100% agave tequila. But I've

discovered that most alcohols are made with a

combination of the " signature " ingredient -- like

agave in tequila -- and the less expensive grain

alcohols (wheat, corn, or both), so I have to be

careful.

Wine, for example brings on the gentle " glow " anyone

would associate with alcohol. A grain alcohol brings

on the full reaction with flushing, headache, bumps,

etc.
