It is done in nuclear medicine and they watch how long it takes your gallbladder to empty. My ultrasound was normal as well, but the HIDA scan showed delayed emptying and when the GB was removed it was not full of stones but " sludge " and the path report showed chronic infection. I can relate the beginning of my problems with CP at the time of my GB problems. I hope this helps. -SC

One who will order all the right tests to determine the underlying cause of your attack and take the steps necessary to treat you properly. Ultrasounds are often not definitive enough to show pancreatic problems. Your doctor should do a HIDA scan, and should also consider a CT-scan, which is more revealing. In the meantime, as has been already suggested, you should follow a strict low fat diet, probably no more than 20-25 grams of fat daily, and abstain from all alcohol and products that contain alcohol. Exercise is good, but don't do any activities that will put additional strain or twisting of the abdominal area, and avoid lifting any heavy objects. Feel free to post again if you have any more questions. We're here to help you however we can. With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H.
