I got some good highway safety materials from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, free and in Spanish, from their website. Drinking and driving was one topic area that they have available.

Hi. I am wondering if anyone has Spanish language educational materials

discussing substance abuse and/or drinking and driving.

Dear Amy,

In planning this year's East Coast Migrant Stream Forum, the planning committee

expressed interest in offering a workshop that explores the growing concern of

substance abuse and DWI among farmworkers. In our investigation of potential

presenters and available curricula, we identified the following resources that

are not farmworker-specific, but might prove useful in your efforts:

1. The Century Council is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fighting

drunk driving and underage drinking and has available a number of materials

(videos, posters, CD Rom, etc) as part of their several innovative programs and

public awareness campaigns. While they have not developed a curriculum specific

to farmworkers, they have materials geared toward Latino, African American, and

other ethnic groups. For more information, visit www.centurycouncil.org or

contact them at Century Council 1310 G Street, NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC

20005. Tel: 202-637-0077

2) El Pueblo, Inc., a NC-based non-profit policy and advocacy organization

recently developed a video and curriculum " Por Nuestra Seguridad, A Driving

Safety Video for North Carolina Latinos. " While the curriculum's focus is

highway safety and highlights the importance of wearing seatbelts, car seats,

and how to obtain a driver's license, one component of the video explores the

issue of drinking and driving. For more information or to obtain a copy of the

video and accompanying training manual, contact El Pueblo, Inc. 118 South Person

Street, Raleigh, NC. Tel: (919) 835-1525 or visit www.elpueblo.org
