Tooth staining/grey build up of plaque

Hi All,

I am curious to know if any other parents of kids with CF have observed

superficial tooth discoloration that is NOT the result of medications.....

My son Jack, now almost 20 months old with CF, has a daily build-up of greyish

stuff on the front surface of, and between, his upper incisors. It's easily

rubbed off with a dry washcloth. Jack's Pediatrician thinks I should have his

teeth scaled and Jack's CF Doc thinks I'm seeing things.... I KNOW I am NOT.

Jack is on a very balanced diet, with supplemental ADEKs and oral MultiVitamins

included in his morning feed. I am wondering though if the tooth discoloration

is the result of the combination of vitamin supplements mixed with food,

PediaSure and enzymes.

I am wondering WHAT is reacting with WHAT that is producing the nasty grey funk

on his teeth. I am thinking Pediasure and Creon as a hunch.

Any input, observations or insight , would TRULY be appreciated!!

Hi Paige,

Do you have a good family dentist? He may be able to shed some light

on this.

Our dentist tolds me that diets high in sugar (either refined or

unrefined) often make saliva thicker, but definitely sweeter, so

bacteria is attracted. Maybe your dentist can take a scraping of this

grey stuff and look to see if anything is growing in it?
