I used Clinique Turnaround Cream when it first came out, and it made

my skin worse. (I got it in a gwp when I bought Clinique's Sensitive

Skin Foundation, which was great but discontinued about 4 years ago.)

The offending ingredient for me was the salicylic acid, which is, of

course, a beta hydroxy acid (BHA). BHAs bother some people like us,

but they can have an anti-inflammatory effect for some since

salicylic acid is related to aspirin. Dr. Sy thinks they're ok for

some rosaceans, but Dr. Nase says they aren't.

Take care,

Matija

Thanks for the warning, Lee. I'm using the newer version, Total

Turnaround Cream, though I don't know exactly how it differs from the

original. I've been using it for about 18 months now, and my skin

continues to react well. Like you, I also can't tolerate most

Clinique skin care products, although their makeup (other than

foundation) is fine for me too. Takes all kinds, I guess.

Once years ago when I saw a derm about a rash on my face, he asked me if I'd

been using Clinique or Oil of Olay products. (I'd been using the Clinique

soap and toner I think) Anyway, he said most of the people he saw with skin

sensitivity problems had been using one of these two brands. This was about

15 years ago though when Clinique only had a few products (the 3-step soap,

toner deal) and Olay had only the one lotion. The Clinique toners have quite

a bit of alchohol in them and I think it's amazing they market their

products for sensitive skin. Now they make an extra-mild toner without

alchohol which they say is for extremely sensitive skin, but that's

relatively recent. I did try their extra-sensitive skin soap bar and after

about three days my face became redder and redder (and my rosacea does not

really manifest as a red face...) I stopped using the soap and it

disappeared.

I will say though that their Dramatically Different Moisturizer is what I've

been using almost exclusivley for about a year now and it's great. And

ironically one of the ingredients in it is lanolin alcohol which is not

supposed to be good at all. So go figure...
