I am glad that you brought this up as it reminded me that I need to update the symposium information. Last year we had some rather serious last minute complications with planning. We were able to handle them because we were here where the symposium was taking place. At the post symposium review we decided that we really need to have it in Indianapolis again, until we smooth out some rough edges. I have put together the symposium planning guide which is actually 18 months long, so we are already running behind for this year and the next. However, as we gradually adopt the guidelines, we will find the symposiums have much more success. I would love for you to be on the planning committee. I am hoping to have the host for an upcoming symposium, work closely with the host for the symposium the year before. So hopefully we can look at New Orleans for 2004, at least 2005. Anyone else interested in serving on one of the planning committees please let Gail West or myself know. >>>... At the meeting here I would love to give a talk and tell everyone about my life experience. <<< We definitely want to incorporate that in. I am planning on having a focus on the Total Pancreatectomy and Islet Cell Transplant. I would like to have someone compliment the technical information & lecture with a talk based on personal experience. Go ahead and send me a copy of your story now so I can post it on a page I am working on about the Transplant surgery for the board. I am waiting to hear back from Anne Marie re: having Dr. Sutherland speak. We are changing the date of the Symposium from October to an earlier month. It is just so difficult to find a mutually convenient time for so many people. At this time we are looking at August or September. That is why I am trying to nail down some good speakers now. As soon as I see what can work out well for recruiting some notable pancreatic researchers I will post the date to the public. Mark, I am sending out an invitation to Dr. Hayden. He would be great, too. I would really like to get one of the doctors that does celiac blocks to speak, also. >>> I would like to become a rep for the New Orleans area and the southern region > as well ... I would like people to know that they have another person here > to support them ... <<< Thanks for the enthusiastic offering of support and assistance. Heidi H. hhessgriffeth@...hhessgriffeth@... is the Southeastern Regional Representative. We are looking for a Greater New Orleans Area Representative or contact. We have several members in that area now and could really use someone to network a local Chapter, and let the local hospitals in New Orleans, Metarie, Kenner, etc., know that they finally have a supportive and understanding resource for their patients. It will be particularly helpful to have someone who can put together a NOLA membership roster for preliminary planning for when NOLA hosts the symposium. Regarding the symposium date, is there anyone that has a particular month that would be better. I am going to base it primarily on the availability of the speakers for this year, but in the absence of that, I really want to try and put it at a time that would work best for the PAI members. Please give me some input. Karyn Karyn E. , RN Founder / Executive Director Pancreatitis Association International Corp.
