Guest guest
I would ask him to put you on Elidel instead of Desowen if it is seb derm. I went down the Desowen road and it is not pretty. I have been using the Elidel for one week and my seb derm has dissapeared completely--hopefully it will not come back but I know that the Desowen will result in serious rebound effect. And if you do have cea, the Desowen can worsen the rosacea condition. The Elidel burns a little the first few days that you use it (so will the Desowen) and it may appear worse at first but with me my skin cleared dramatically after two days of using Elidel and now I can slather the stuff on with no burning sensation at all. Redness gone, open sores gone, all flaking gone, sensitivity gone, itching gone--I have had very persistent symptoms for the past two years--I never went more than 3 or 4 days wihout at least moderate or severe breakouts in eyebrows, ears, sides of nose If you read through many of the posts here on Desowen and other steroids, you will see that a majority of posters will agree that Desowen is evil--many derms have not figured this out but many of here have Elidel is relatively new drug that has the same effects of Desowen but apparently with less side effects--only been on it one week but my face has not felt this good in two years--I can feel the seb derm trying to breakout but it just doesn't--the Elidel is really suppressing the symptoms--my face feels like it is anesthisized--not that it is numb or anything, but rather, just no sensations which is a good thing. Everything that I have avoided that I know would trigger a breakout such as heavy sweating, high carb foods, dairy products, alcohol, caffeine--I have tested the Elidel all week by partaking in the listed activities and no breakouts at all-- Yes, the Desowen does provide some short term clearing of seb derm but for the 2 years I was on it, my skin never felt or looked as normal as it does now thanks to the Elidel--I am praying that it lasts > >To: rosacea-support >Subject: Derm Says Desowen >Date: Mon, 18 Mar 2002 21:52:29 -0000 > >I saw the derm today for the first time. Guest guest
Elidel is a prescrition drug but it is not a steroid--it was just released by Novartis in January is being touted as the only effective treatment (other than steroids) for exczema related conditons in 30 years, seb derm being a type of exczema. The main ingredient is pimecrolimus and is part Too soon to tell what the rebound effect will be with Elidel but it is really preventing the symptoms from surfacing--my rosacea is probably not as bad as my seb derm has been and my rosacea may not be as bad as many others on this board but if extreme flaking on forehead on sides of nose is a persistent problem for you, I would go to the doctor and demand a prescription for this--it will burn a little the first few days but after that the skin seems to get used it to and the burning goes away--from what I have read on this drug (a lot) there did not seem to be any long term side effects like Desowen After using Desowen for two years with limited success in treating seb derm on a consistent basis and the worsening of overall skin condition, the effect that Elidel has had is far greater than Desowen and Elidel is NOT a steroid--my skin is smooth, flake free, and not nearly as sensitive as it was a week ago > >Reply-To: carriei@... >To: ralph jackson rj561@...>, sburton661@..., >rosacea-support >Subject: Re: Derm Says Desowen >Date: Mon, 18 Mar 2002 19:18:14 -0800 (PST) > > >--- ralph jackson rj561@...> wrote: > > I would ask him to put you on Elidel instead of > > Desowen if it is seb derm. > >is elidel presription and is it a steroid? > >thanks, > >carrie > >__________________________________________________ >
