Guest guest
Hi Gwen, you can fill out the on-line thingie now. When you get your appt. with your primary dr. you need to decide the best way to approach him..you know him best. With mine, I told him that I wanted to talk to him about something that was very very important to me...and he just said " shoot " and I told him what I wanted and he agreed readily. I had my manual all printed out and with me and Dr. R's letter which I printed from Dr. R's site. I didn't even need it. Then I drafted a letter for him to use as a guide which told him what Dr. R needed from him. By the time I got my blood test, ekg, and gathered up the medical records etc., insurance approval had come back and I was ready to send my packet. I sent my online info on April 13, PCP appointment was April 17, blood test and ekg was April 21, got insurance approval on May 3, sent my packet on May 7, got a date about the 10th and had surgery May 31. My only suggestion is to read the manual over and over and do exactly what it says. If you don't...you'll get lost. The process is all in place and you need to be able to read and digest all of the material on Dr. R's site to truly get this surgery and do what you need to do to recover from it. Best wishes! Guest guest
Hi Gwen, The first thing I did was fill out the patient information form on the website. Then I signed releases for my medical records.> Next I wrote my patient letter to Dr. Rutledge. Meanwhile I was approved for the procedure. I copied the patient manual, the doctors letter and personalized it with my docs name and my name. I then made an appointment to see my PCP. I made sure when I scheduled that they knew I would be there for a while. I talked to him, he was very supportive (I was very nervous) and said he was willing to do anything to help. I have been going to this Doctor for about 15 years. He did not ask me any female questions, just basics, have you every had surgery, what other diets have you tried. Did you research other procedures? He then ordered the tests needed and I was out the door. It is taking him some time to write the letter to Dr. Rutledge, but that is okay. I am waiting on that and my medical records from him and one other doctor. As far as the female stuff goes he wants results that are 1 year old or less. I am fortunate I just had mine. Hope this helps. Lara
Guest guest
Hi Gwen, I saw my PCP before I filled out the Patient Information form online because I needed to have some testing done before I could answer all the questions on the patient information form. I took a copy of the manual and Dr. R's letter for your physician from the web site. I told my doctor that I was going to have this done and needed him to support me. He had not heard of the MGB before, but he had referred 3 of his patients before for weight loss surgery (RNY). He is very excited about the MGB and thinks it is a very sensible approach to the problem of morbid obesity. Once I did that and had the test results I needed to know of all my co-morbidities, I filled out the patient information form online. That is what Dr. R uses to write a letter to your insurance company. I did that a few days ago, and haven't heard anything yet, but as I understand it, when Dr. R is done with my letter it will be sent straight to the insurance company, and I will also be sent a copy. I don't think you would need to mention the OB/GYN to your PCP, but you will need to send the results of your Pap in with your packet to Dr. R when you get that all ready. Now I am working on getting together all the items that have to be in my packet: my letter, my family member's letter, medical records, etc. That way when I get insurance approval I can move right ahead and get a date for the MGB. Hope this helps you a bit. The manual and the web site have all the steps laid out for you, but I know that I also had to figure out what order to do things in, too. Good luck, Gwen. Guest guest
Hi Gwen, I would make up a really nice folder with the new handbook, any support letters you have, Dr. R's letter to PCPs and any other information you feel would support your case. Make it neat and professional. They like that kind of stuff! a PreOp 5/29/00 Gwen DeWitt wrote: > > I have my first Dr appt next week with my PCP, I have to talk to him and see if he will agree to help me.
