Guest guest
I know a family who has gluten allergy/sensitivity, that was " glutened " by the frosting of a " gluten free " cake, because the food coloring in the frosting had gluten in it! Beware of food coloring if you have a gluten problems/allergy/sensitivity, I can't tell you what type to buy. As far as rice flour play doe...if they are going to eat it...as some kids will.....even rice play doe it is not SCD legal....we don't play with play doe around here...we play with clay. Antoinette (day 24 entire family SCD and some how surviving ) OT-food dyes, etc Anyone have recommendation on natural color dyes? My son's teacher is asking me to provide a recipe for play doe and I am thinking since he isn't eating it, it can be made with rice flour and cream of tarter? He doesn't put his hands in his mouth. But I don't know about the dyes and I feel nervous about them. Also, what about creams (shaving and lotion), soaps, etc.? .......... Guest guest
Hi Kelli, There's a brand of food dye called India Tree, and there's another called Dancing Deer. Both are based on food products rather than artificial colors (e.g., turmeric for yellow, beet for pink, cabbage for blue, alfalfa for green, etc.). You can find them online at Squirrel's Nest http://www.squirrels-nest.com/index.cfm?action=cat.catalog&categoryID=1 Be warned, the colors aren't very true. The green is kind of muddy, the yellow is kind of mustardy -- let's just say that my Christmas cookies this year came out looking a little funny. However, they have no harmful dyes. I'm not sure if they're SCD compliant. Marina OT-food dyes, etc Anyone have recommendation on natural color dyes?

Guest guest
Yes thank you so much! I think they would do for play doe for sure. I would be interested to hear how safe they are to ingest on SCD. Anyone know? Here are the ingredients: Blue: glycerin, deionized water, red cabbage. Red: beet juice, citric acid. Yellow: polysorbate 80K, propylene glycol, tumeric. ........... Guest guest
Hello, I remembered this from way before anything diet related...this is Martha 's natural dye technique http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml? type=content&id=channel1545&page=1&dp=false&layout=Print&styleType=lear n Also follow the link to the color glossary. I don't think any of these would be a problem with the diet. -Mel
