Hi gang: Many of us girls claim that our rosacea worsens just before

our period and assume it's due to the increase/change in hormones. I

could be totally wrong, but could it just be because basal body temp

increases when you ovulate and stays elevated until you start your

period? Or, maybe a combination of both..

I don't know but I wouldn't think a few degrees' change would affect

rosacea, Patty. But you're right in that a fever is included in lists

of triggers that worsen rosacea.

I've always thought it was my rosacea that worsens just before my

period, but in retrospect I was grouping everything on my face into

the grab bag of rosacea. The temporary relative increase in androgens

cause a breakout in many women, rosaceans or not, and I think that's

all that happens to me. Just a temporary breakout, nothing more.

Patty,

From what I have read--(and I read a lot about hormones/body temp etc..

when my rosacea got bad), ANY change in the balance of hormones can cause

a change in body temp--causing one to heat up. It is very complicated but

basically what happens is the hormone flucuations cause a change in the

hypothalamous which plays a part in regulating body temperature. Of course

the extreme is hot flashes, but it can also be on a much milder level. I

have always felt hotter certain times of the month and my rosacea would

get a little worse then. The BC pill always kept me cool, kept my rosacea

under control, and when I stopped it I was hot all the time, would sweat

easier and my rosacea got really bad because my hormones were all over the

place.

There's a lot of info. online.
