Don't know if this works any better but I cut a couple of X's in them and

drop them in boiling water for a minute (or less). They do cook partially

when you do this and the outside of the peeled date is a bit sticky. That

works for me, though, since after that I roll them in ground pecans and

shredded coconut for a tasty treat (something you might want to try later in

the diet).
