Guest guest
Thanks Kimber, I will go to the Hopkins site and print that out. I have printed it out before but don't know what I did with it. I will be talking to Dr. Cotton myself cuz I am not sure what this new doc will actually tell him. Thanks for the good advice, I needed to be reminded to talk to Dr. Cotton and about the Hopkins site. talk to ya soon,
Guest guest
Hi Kimber, I'm sorry that I haven't been online for a few days. I just read your e-mail and glad to see that your eye is healing nicely. I hope the scarring will just be temporary and can be corrected with glasses. I think you are smart to wait for 6 weeks after it is healed to start warring your contact again. This way your eye be good and healed and well rested before you start putting anything such as contact or the solutions in your eye. A long time ago, I went to the beach for a vacation ( in 71) and left my towel and glasses on the beach while we went into swim. When I got out of the water someone took my towel and glasses. When I go home I went to my eye doc. to get a new pair made up and I had to wait a few days for the new pair to be made up. Well, in the meantime we had company for dinner and I was deep frying chicken for dinner and I was draining the chicken from the deep fryer and my arm hit the handle of the basket & it when back down into the hot oil & when the hot oil splashed out it burned the cornea of my eye, Boy, oh boy did that hurt. I had to go the ER for treatment, and had to put drops into my eye and wear a patch over it for a while it healed. Today my left eye( the one that got burned ) is still my weak one. So I can sympathizes(SP) with you over your eye problem and how much they hurt and how uncomfortable they can be. I hope you got good results on Friday at you doctors appt. Keep us posted on how you are doing. Take Care, Louie in WV To Louie Louie, I hope the Glucophage change is helping too. Sometimes it takes medicines several days to fully get into the system (kind of a cumulative effect). The ulcer in the eye is fully healed, but it's still a little inflamed, so I have a new oitment for the eye at night and I have been able to discontinue the drops and the other ointment. This one is helping and the inflamation is receding slowly. I'll be able to wear the contacts once all the redness is gone. I talked with someone else who has had this and she said it was best to wait at least 6 weeks after it's healed to where the contacts, so I'll probably do that. Don't want to take the chance of this happening again. I did have have some vision loss as there is a small scar, but I'm seeing a optomestrist on Friday to see how much and if we can correct it with glasses. I'm hoping that is the case. Guest guest
Louie, well, the ulcer scar didn't affect my vision, but something else did. They think an old injury has left something blocking my vision in my left eye, but I don't think I had any other injuries to that eye, so something is blocking the vision. It isn't the ulcer, because it wasn't in my line of vision evidently, but something is. My optometrist is going to consult with my opthamologist to see if they can pin down what is affecting the vision in the left eye. I may end up having to go to the opthamologist again so he can look at it. As it is, the optomestrist can't bring the vision up in that eye. What worries me is that both my great grandmother and my grandmother has tumors in their eyes.My great grandmother died because it had spread, but my grandmother just lost the eye, though they did tell her if they had caught it earlier, they could have saved the eye. So, needless to say, I'm worried that it's the beginning of a tumor. I'm hoping it's not and that it's something that is fixable. They do know it is not the retina, so that is okay, but it may be something in the cornea. The doctor is supposed to call me during the week, so I should have some idea then. Guest guest
Hi Kimber, I certainly hope it nothing permanent with your eye and the new doc do something to fix the problem. I will certainly keep you in my prayers that everything turns out ok for you. Are you a diabetic from your CP, yet? I know when you are a diabetic, sometimes it can affect the eye, so once a year I now see a diabetic eye specialist, so if any problems are starting, hopefully we will caught the in the early stages. I hope this isn't your case. I can certainly see why you are worried, since your grandmothers had so much problems with their eyes. Keep me posted. If there is anything I could do let me know. Guest guest
Louie, yes I am diabetic and I get my eyes checked once a year. I do have retinopathy, but the problem I'm currently having isn't connected to that, the doctors checked to make sure about that. This is something new that they feel isn't related to my diabetes. Right now it's just wait and see. If the doctor doesn't call me by tomorrow I will call him to find out what he found out from my opthamologist. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Guest guest
Louie, I take insulin. I've been diabetic for 21 years now, it will be 22 years in March. Considering how long I've been diabetic, it's amazing that I have only mild retinopathy. It's so minor that it doesn't require treatment basically. They do keep watch on it though, so I get an exam every year. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@...
