Guest guest
Was wondering if anyone has ocular rosacea symptoms. My eyes are pretty bad. Thinking about giving acutane another try. Took about 30- 40mg per week for only 2 months. After reading some posts, sounds like 10mg per day for 6 months might be the way to go. Was wondering if anyone has any other suggestions. I use Ocusoft scrubs-seems to help some-baby shampoo is full of to much junk and I think did more harm. Have read Dr. Nase's book-best yet that I have found. Anyway, if anyone has any ideas I'm all ears...and red eyes..thanks..Bill

Anyway, > if anyone has any ideas I'm all ears...and red eyes..thanks..Bill I, too, have had constant eye problems for quite a long time. I took Accutane for six months, and while it made my eyes extremely dry and red, I think it helped reduce the overall inflammation. When I was finished with that treatment, I started back on doxycycline, 50mg bid, which I still take. I also do the standard course of treatment for ocular rosacea/blepharitis with meibomian gland stagnation which is hot compresses, lid expression, and cleansing the lids (lashes and rim of the lids) with an ophthalmic lid cleanser. I know lots of people have luck with the baby shampoo, but I like the cleanser so I can get to the lid margin without burning my eyes with the soap. Also, the cleanser makes a good eye makeup remover. When my eyes flare up, either from allergies or for some other unknown reason, I use Lotemax. It is a mild steroidal anti-inflammatory that my cornea specialist says is ok to use. I am careful to use it only when I really need it, and I have my pressures checked regularly. I also take borage and flax oil every day--I think it has helped somewhat. There are several new products available that contain the omega-3 and -6's that are formulated especially for dry eyes. One I've tried is HydroEye. I used it for a couple of months with high hopes, but I don't think it works any better than regular EFA capsules. Plus, it is pretty expensive--I think about $30 per month supply. Marji
