Guest guest
Hello again, Shaelin is going in tomorrow for his first hospitalization since I have had him for 2 weeks of IV antibiotics and possibly sinus surgery. For those of you who have been there, any advice on what to bring - to maintain my sanity and his. I was told to be cautious of bringing in lots of toys as they may get " lost " but I hesitate letting him play with those that are there as I am not confident they have been cleaned well. Also, do the hospitals accommodate their specific dietary needs? Shaelin still gets a bottle am and pm (he will only drink water in a cup!) in which I put whole milk mixed with whole milk powder, carnation instant breakfast and Haagen Daz ice cream. I cannot imagine they will have these items! It is the only way I can get enough calories into him at least at the beginning and end of the day. Thanks in advance for your advice. Guest guest
I know that our hospital accomidates children VERY well. They usually have specific diets for specific kids. So if he is on a high fat high protien diet, then that is what he gets. shannon > >Reply-To: cfparents >To: cfparents >Subject: Hospitalizaion >Date: Wed, 30 Oct 2002 12:08:44 -0000 > >Hello again, >Shaelin is going in tomorrow for his first hospitalization since I >have had him for 2 weeks of IV antibiotics and possibly sinus >surgery. Guest guest
Jeanne, I haven't really been in the hospital much but did go when Wyatt was 8 months for failure to thrive. He didn't take a bottle NEVER WOULD and I told the nurses this. I was in training to be an at home day care provider and hubby had meetings at work so we left Wy alone for awhile one day. THEY DIDN'T FEED HIM AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They tried the bottle and it didn't work so they gave up. After specific instructions by me that he won't take a bottle and to use a cup with a straw. And he was in there to GAIN WEIGHT. Can't do that w/out eating. So if he has special dietary needs all I can say is make sure to give them specific instructions and work with them on how they can give him higher calorie foods. Maybe they have some of the things in the hospital cafeteria. Maybe you can bring them in and have them there for him to use. Just be very careful they are doing what you want them to do!
