US healthcare overview

Does anyone have a written overview of the basics of the US healthcare (and

social services) system? I would like to include this information with a

health promoter class for a group of Latinos, mostly Mexican. I've looked

for this on health websites but not had any luck.

I am using a text book in our class on the American health care system in

the new MPH Program at UC titled: Introduction to Health Services by

Torrens and . It does a good job of talking about the

history and present status of health and social services in the US and

includes a public health perspective. You may find it to be overkill for

what you need but the first chapter is titled " Historical Evolution and

Overview of Health Services in the United States " . Biggest failing of that

chapter is that it hardly mentions Community and Migrant Health Centers!

Otherwise, it is pretty good.
