In my opinion I would definitely have the Auto Eyelet Transplant with the total

pancreatectomy I I was Dx new with CP> I have had it for 12 years and have

going thru 3 surgeries including a whipple, where they removed half of my

pancreas and had done before that 13 ERCP. Knowing what I know now I would

definate push forh the Auto Eyelet Transplant with the total pancreactectomy,

but I can't have it all done now because I have developed diabeties and they

can't do they Auto Eyelet once you have become a diabetic.

The problem I have had it my insurance won't approve the Auto Eyelet Transplant,

but I am still definately consider a total pancreactomy. I feel it is worth the

surgery now to have the constance pain that goes with CP. This is just my

opionion and I'm know that others on this board won't agree with me.

Don't let any doc tell you that they are not doing the Auto Eyelet Transplant

with the total pancreactectomy. They do them at University of MN and Dr.

Sutherland is a pioneer in the field. They are now doing them at other hospital

too. So if any doc tell you they don't do them, then they are now educated on

the subject. If you need Dr. Sutherland web site I have it. I hope this helps.

and I do hope that they find out what is wrong with you sister and it's not CP.

Your sister is very lucky to have such a caring and understand sister, like you.

About my sis (Chronic or acute???) Opinions on

autoislet surgery?

My sister sis 24 and she had been told she had chronic pancreatitis.

Now this other doctor is not so sure. This is the second time she

has had pancreatitis and this bout has lasted almost 4 months. She

has lost a baby, she has lost 30 lbs, and she is back in the

hospital again as of yesterday. Now we are praying they will get her

into the University of Michigan for more testing. So far the ERCPs,

cat scans, and MRI have shone that her pancreas has no type of

damage whatsoever. So, I am not sure why she was told she had

chronic pancreatitis and now they are changing their tune. The

reason I am so upset is because I spend a lot of time talkin to

people at the hospital in Minnesota regarding the autoislet surgery.

This GI doc my sis has now said there was no such kind of surgery

and said that pancreatectomys were almost never done. She was very

skittish about the whole discussion. Anyhow, I would like opinions

and info from those who have opinions on the autoislet surgery for

pancreatitis in case my sis does have the chronic kind. Thank you so

much for your time and God bless.
