Guest guest
Gertrude, This explains so much!!!!!! God Bless you for telling us this. We have only started using the enzymes for our daughter KiKi and myself...not knowing that he needed them since his growth is fine. They are so expensive...but we will do what we have to do. Does my husband and adopted daughter need enzymes also? Adopted daughter is coming out of cerebral palsy (hyperekplexia) and my husband...well he is ADD also? Antoinette (Entire Family SCD day 18) Re: Anybody have problem with SCD safe peanut butter causing bizzare behavior? Out of all the nuts and nutbutters, peanut butter is the worst for autistic or adhd children. There's two fold problems. 1) High Phenols 2) aflatoxins Aflatoxins are the byproducts of a fungus that prefers peanuts. They strain the body in the excretion, using body reserves of glutathione, stressing the liver, and strain the whole body like any toxin or heavy metal exposure. And of course, high phenols. At least with almonds, even though medium phenolic content, as the body starts healing, over time there will be a bigger tolerance. Almonds are easily digested otherwise. We have been using Houston's No-Fenol enzymes, which have helped tremendously this past year with increasing my son's tolerance for higher phenol food. Actually, my sons are fine with almonds in moderation now, but we went 8 months with no peanuts (there is no known allergy or sensitivity here), and upon reintroduction nothing happened, but the second time and on, Hunter started reacting with hyperactivity as before. Are you using digestive enzymes? They will help slowly heal these phenol issues, amongst other attributes. Guest guest
Antoinette, If it makes you feel any better, my oldest is the sneakiest food stealer ever...I completely understand this! lol What enzymes are you taking? Have you read the book " Enzymes for Autism and Other Neurological Conditions " by DeFelice? With leaky gut, there are generally less enzymes being produced by the body, adding additional burden and greater chance of ongoing developing food sensitivties as a whole. Finding the right enzyme is the trick. Sometimes some people will have a reaction to those enzymes that contain bromelain or papain, especially if super sensitive to citrus. Other enzymes are made by the body, and should be no problem, depending on the company who makes it. We are on many enzymes. We take Houston's Peptizyde, HN-Zyme Prime, and No-Fenol. We have been using the last couple of months BioGestAid II from Still Water Nutrtionals as a trial, from a local lab. We are also experimenting with Enzyme Medicas " Virastop " . Experiementation aside, it was the three Houston's that have worked all the miracles on us. www.houstonni.com I just was letting you know what our enzyme history was. I am always keeping an eye out for other great enzymes, but money prevents me for diving into too much experimentation. Remember, enzymes build up over time in the body, their positive effects become more apparent after some time. Die off can happen too. I can't tell you enough what enzymes have done for us! It is not just staying away from phenols, it is healing the ability to eat these foods! They are expensive overall, though, but after I witnessed how they improve leaky gut, work on yeast issues and phenol issues, they are a necessary intervention for us. Everytime we eat, we make sure we take them. For a small snack, we might use part of a capsule. Both my children and myself use enzymes. I have friends, with no medical problems who use enzymes just for their ability to scavenge some free radicals from food. Read the book! There is also another yahoo chat...enzymes and autism. Great place, I don't post there, but I check in every once and awhile. You know, I cannot answer if the rest of your family could use enzymes, but if you think so, and they react well to it, then go for it! It is only going to decrease some gut bugs and increase absorption and clean waste material out of the blood, no bad side effects unless you take too much and have a huge die off! Guest guest
Summer; I also use Houston's Peptizyde and No-Fenol. I was thinking about adding Zyme-Prime to the mix. In your experience, all 3 enzyme formulations together get the best result? And how many capsules per meal of each enzyme do you take? Hope this isn't too off topic... Thanks, Kim :-) Pre SCD (3 yo ASD, 2 yo NT)
