Guest guest
Thank you to Kaye and Heidi for the info about drugs that cause pancreatitis, I will do some futher research! I also have another question, has anyone heard about the link between pancreatitis and autoimmune disease? We have in our family alot of Autoimmune problems, I did mention this to my DR, but he brushed it off as being not a big deal and that it was rare for a person to get autoimmune pacreatitis. Has anyone out there been diagnosed with autoimmune pancreatitis? Hope that everyone is having a relatively pain free day! regards Helen G Australia

Guest guest
-Helen, From every Dr. I have talked to..once the pancreas is removed (as I am going to have the surgery in Oct.) that the immune system is compromised. Susceptibility to viruses increases as well as the possibility of food allergies and rheumatoid arthritis. Not too worried about the arthritis as I already have it. I'll ask around about autoimmune pancreatitis but seems to me that oncew the immune system is compromised then infections and inflammation of organs is very likely. Guest guest
Helen, I was given the diagnosis of autoimmune pancreatitis for a total of about two weeks. My ANA was extremely elevated and they noticed that almost every time I have been in the hospital my ANA was elevated and I also had a mysterious rash. The placed me on prednisone, but I didn't get better. My doctor sent me to UofU to find out if it was automimmune for sure, but they don't believe it exists and they changed my diagnosis back to idiopathic chronic pancreatitis.
