I am not making this up! Jillian, it's called psychogenic polydipsia. The chemical imbalance you're referring to is probably hyponatremia, a low sodium level in the bloodstream. Timmay, you were misinformed by the news story about 12 liters a day not resulting in *any* health problems (it's not your fault, given the terrible quality of some of those local TV medical news stories though their intentions may have been good, trying to encourage people to remain well hydrated during this season). I don't know about the high -- but I would think there are much better highs than having a low sodium. Seriously, none of this will happen on 6-8 glasses (= 1.5-2 liters or 48-64 ounces) of water a day. Someone in private email heard on the news (again! ) that this figure is an " urban legend " but that's absolutely not true. Water maintenance is easy to calculate; I have the formula on my Visor. For full hydration a 150 lb person requires 2.5 liters of all fluids - - but that includes the water in foods and other liquids consumed, etc so only those on a total fast would one require the full requirement in water intake. That formula is where the 6-8 glasses of water a day comes from: a 100 lb person requires 2 liters of all fluids, and a 200 lb person requires 3 liters of all fluids a day. Keep in mind that this 6-8 glasses is someone with an average lifestyle, and doesn't take into account increased losses such as sweating from hot weather and exercise. So in a typical lifestyle, drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day shouldn't result in making too many pit stops while allowing for maximally hydrated skin and other health benefits. Bladder or prostate problems, and other conditions might cause urinary urgency (feeling the need to go when the bladder isn't really full) that reveal themselves once fully hydrated. Alternatively, what feels like " too many pit stops " may be in comparison to a previously borderline dehydrated state, where the body was trying to conserve water. FYI: I've seen some promote the formula of 1/2 your body weight for daily water intake. But that's based on the formula to replenish a water deficit; it looks like they cancelled out the sodium and kept the rest of the formula. It's an easy formula to remember, but it's completely wrong. Mathematically the sodium can't be cancelled out, and it provides for way too much water for an average person. You may have also heard about water being a natural diuretic, but that's maximally true in normal amounts. Losing free water doesn't help " flush out your system " -- your body does that with normal hydration. Overhydration will only give you more pit stops and potentially lose some electrolytes in the process, forcing your body to compensate for those losses (it will, but why put one's body through that deliberately, day after day?). As mentioned in another thread, poisons are deactivated in the liver and kidneys, way before they get to the bladder and are excreted, normally with normal hydration. So I know of no benefit to overhydrating yourself, esp if you're predisposed to swelling. But there may be something I'm missing, so please share it with us. Are you saying that after a few days you will no longer need to make as many bathroom trips because you will produce less urine even though you are taking in more water? If so, this is simply not possible (is it?). Perhaps you mean the bladder enlarges so it can hold more? Either way, your point is well taken. Marjorie is stating medical facts, but almost all medical facts are merely current dogma. Up until quite recently doctors said that taking vitamin supplements resulted in nothing more than expensive urine. > __________________________________________________ >

Guest guest
alright, no mention of that certain oral retinoid renown for its anti- inflammatory properties. I know I can still be in the race, but why should I be running with a lead weight tied to my legs. We'd all like to beleive that girls will look beyond what you look like, and that is true for Bill Gates, and those as rich as he is. > " Are these the same runs in which Accutane can, at both the same > time, > > provide the opportunity to enter the race, yet slow down certain > > athletes?
