Guest guest
hi there. don't panic. i had pulsed dye laser (3 of them) done years ago for acne scarring and diffuse redness. i was not diagnosed with rosacea at the time. it was assumed the diffuse redness was post accutane redness (i had high dose accutane treatment a year prior for severe cystic acne). after the treatments i was left severely bruised, same as you...little brown spots all over my face. my face swelled up within a day, so much so my eyes were half closed. for me, each and every time it took about a month for the brown spots to scab and fall off. i wasn't left with any permanent bruising or scarring after the treatments. however they also did not help the " diffuse redness " which come to find out was really early rosacea. now i'm desperatly trying photofacials. i have the very severe, debilitating flares. so far i use metrocream and vicodin for the pain. photofacial is my only hope otherwise. i had my first done at Dr. Bitter's office about 2 weeks ago. i get my second treatment next week. don't panic...with that type laser it's normal....just let it heal. hope i was of some help. if you need to ask anymore questions i'll try and help. night, Angie ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Guest guest
I also need some advice on pulse dye laser treatment. Recently I learnt that pulse dye laser can be used to eliminate dilated blood vessels associated with rosacea. How many sessions are needed for a treatment? Does this treatment need to be done every year to maintain the effect? Any adverse side-effect? I found the following in a website. A purple mark must be seen almost immediately after the pulse if the laser is to be effective. As the days go by after treatment, the purple mark will turn into a dark purple scab which can be shaved off on the next visit. Note: if you don't see purple marks, then the laser power is too low, the laser is inefficient. I remember reading a post saying that it took up to 6 weeks for the purple marks to disappear. Hope this can answer 's question. Shirley Need Advice for Post Pulsed Dye Treatment > Hi! Guest guest
Hi I had laser treatment in the UK about 5 weeks ago and I was left badly marked for about at least 2/3 weeks. I have very sensitive skin and it looked very bruised with cranberry spots like yours. I too swelled up with a lot of puffiness round my eyes. It was my second treatment and for my first 5 months ago I only had a small area done so was shocked to see how I looked afterwards this time. I had to be really careful to use a high factor sunblock all the time. However 4 weeks later my skin looks clearer than it has for years and I am really pleased. I am still taking the oxytetracycline tablets but my skin even feels smoother and softer. Hope this helps and that yours soon starts to improve. Guest guest
I had pulsed dye done on small areas of my face five years ago. I had the purple bruising and swelling you described that lasted approx. ten days. However I also had some staining of the skin which was cranberry in colour. In my case it was caused by iron deposits left in the skin. This is a side effect that can happen to some patients (the doctor's literature said approx. 1%, however I believe it to be higher). This side effect was not permanent. It took approx. five months to fade away. The doctor gave me fading cream to help the process. When it finally resolved itself, the treated areas had improved. They were lighter with an improved texture. The benefits remain to this day. If the same thing is happening to you, hang in there, it will improve and you will see benefits! Guest guest
Hi Michele, The doctor gave me a hydroquinine bleaching cream for my " splotchy " areas as well. The cream did not irritate my skin but I just had small areas treated. I did not do my entire cheeks. Eventually the splotches faded away. I think they would have faded without the cream because originally I just had a test done on my arm. I had the same " splotch " but didn't use the bleaching cream to treat it. The splotch totally disappeared on it's own over the course of a few months. You may be going through Hell now but your skin will probably be much improved eventually. Your doctor said he wants to re-examine your skin in another month. This may not be enough time for the splotches to have resolved. For me it took a total of five months for them to be completely gone and to finally see the benefits of the treatment. It may be advisable to wait as long as you possibly can before you pursue more treatment. Hopefully by then you'll discover that you don't need to do anything else. Good luck and feel free to E-mail me if you have any more questions.
