Guest guest
Diabetes was what first popped into my mind. They should be able to do a very quick toe/finger prick test, and if this is abnormal, would do a fasting blood draw. Not to scare you, but I would do this right away. I don't know if this is a " typical " reaction of starting SCD, we are in our second week ourselves. Even if several people on this list wrote back and said this was typical, you should still go check it out. Better safe than sorry and very simple to do. Guest guest
I am uncertain about the drunken part of your request. That sounds like something yeast-related, but I don't know whether it would be a good sign or a bad sign. I do know that when your body is detoxing you get much more thirsty. This is normal and is a good sign in and of itself (connected with the drunkeness, though . . . again, I am unsure). Jeni Lynn (gastrointetinal problems) SCD 3 weeks Excessive drinking of water Hi, I have just joined this chat room, althought my sister posted a message awhile ago on my behalf. My son is 2 1/2 years old and has severe autism. We have been on the SCD diet for since January. I think in general things are improving for him but I wanted to find out if anyone had the following symptoms: For the first few weeks he was extremely lethargic, drank huge quantities of water and was extremely clumsy (like a drunk person). His energy has come back for the most part but he still drinks excessively and continues to look drunk. I am wondering if it is normal part of the detox process or if it is something else. I going to have his urine tested for diabetes and I have started giving him primrose oil. Has anybody experienced these symptoms? Any ideas? Guest guest
Tara, A few things can cause excessive thirst, from weak kidney function to detoxing, especially from the strain die off can cause. Myself and my youngest son are pre-diabetic, actually I am diabetic, he is hypo, but we completely control our symptoms and sugar levels with this diet. My oldest is only slightly glycemic. (See the vaccination injuries to the pancreas?) The beginning can be rough. I think it is a good idea to find out if diabetes is an issue, but also, even foods that are SCD legal can aggravate hypoglycemia and diabetes. Follow up on the testing front, but on this front, what foods is your child eating? I believe that SCD is the perfect diet for controlling diabetes, if that is even an issue for you. I hope it is only detox, and possibly an unrecognized food allergy (very possible still, even 21/2 months SCD). So, please tell us what your child is eating, in case I or someone here has an observation of it. Summer davis brandijacksondavis@...> wrote: If you are using stevia, it can cause excessive thirst. Guest guest
Another possibility may be acid reflux. Excessive thirst may be a way to keep the acid burn down. My son was on prevacid for a year to treat grade A erosive esaphogitis. When I tried removing the medication prematurely, he developed excessive thirst--drinking large quantities of liquid trying to keep the acid down. After starting homeopathy and SCD, we were able to slowly ween the prevacid and eventually remove it. He hasn't needed it since. Guest guest
Hi. Is your child eating a lot? losing any weight? there are different kinds of diabetes, not just type I and II. Please let us know the result of the regular diabetic screening, which I would do immediately. Are you giving new kinds of supplements? high dose minerals? there are a lot of things that can be causing this. Can you tell us more about his diet, supplements, etc. Also, is he urinating a lot as well or just drinking much? Is he puffy? Very skinny? Overweight? How does his breath and urine smell? Think about some of these and let your doctor know the answers to them. It is important to know. see him ASAP. Best of luck maria mom to fiol 15mo asd > > Another possibility may be acid reflux. Guest guest
Hi Tara, I found this quote in Jaquelyn McCandless's book, Children With Starving Brains: " Anytime a child acts 'drunk' you can bet they have the 'autobrewery syndrome; -- alchoholic intoxication due to the overgrowth of Candida albicans in the G.I. tract. " I do agree with the others that have suggested that you investigate the diabetes idea if not for the sole purpose of ruling it out. However, it may turn out that it is a drunken yeast / thirsty detoxing issue. If it is, you are in the right place. Good luck! And keep us posted.
