Greetings all. I read ALL of the posts, but rarely post. My son

Will is 5 months and is doing great. We had a check up at the CF

clinic yesterday and he got a clean bill of health. He is 20 lbs 7

oz and is not on enzymes!

There was, however, a hitch. Will's oxygen level (which was taken 8

times on hus hands, feet, forehead, chest and neck) was consistently

in the high 80's/low 90's. The highest read was 94.

His Doctor and nurse were perplexed because his color was as pink as

pink gets, his breathing was normal and he showed no signs that this

was a true read. The doctor said he was not concerned, because

oximeters aren't 100% accurate, and if he was truly in this range his

coloring would be dusky.

Since Will has an appointment with his pediatrician next week, he

asked that he have a read on their oximeter, to compare. If that

oximeter gives a similar read, Will will have an artery draw and his

o2 level will be measured. Apparently this is an absolute read.

Has anyone had a similar situation? Being his mom, I am worried

sick, even though they assured me I needn't worry.

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.

Mom to Bridget 23 mos wocf and Will 5 mos wcf

Hi ,

sorry, but no words of wisdom here :-( At least I have tried, but to

my own surprise I didn't find any articles about a possible reason

for the low oxygen saturation. What's about Will's iron levels? It is

to hope that it really was a bug in the oximeter. Do they really only

have one oximeter in the whole clinic?

Anyway, congrats to the good check up!

Peace

Torsten
