Zinc Oxide Question

Hello, I'm somewhat new but have read alot to get info. I have a mostly red

face. I'm reluctant to rely on one RX because of how many people have their

regime no longer work for them after time (and I'm sensitive to glycerin

which eliminates metrocream and noritate). For me, my face seems to change

every few days so I'm approaching my regime to respond to my constantly

fluctuating state.

Regarding zinc: I have been experimenting with 2 forms of zinc:

1. generic zinc oxide (mfg by clay park labs and found in the first aid

section). It is 20% zinc but also has light mineral oil, white beeswax, and

white petrolatum.

2. balmex - diaper rash ointment. (oh well). It contains, 11.3 % zinc oxide

and aloe vera, balsan, beeswax, benzoic acid, dimethicone, methylaraben,

mineral oil, propylparaben, purified water, sodium borate, tocopheryl

(vitamin E acetate).

You can also ask your pharmacist for zinc products. I found that it was more

expensive and had comparable ingredients.

If my face has some bumps and is oily I use plain zinc at night. (also

sometimes in the am to calm an am flush hoping that the white cream actually

offsets my red). If my face is red and dry I use the balmex at night. It

feels like it's hydrating my face. I'm weary of the waxes and oils in both

products so I switch them depending on what my face is doing. So far, for

red it seems good. (except I blew it and had wheat the other day which I'm

pretty sure is a trigger...) Yesterday I had a few bumps and decided to

retry the metrogel on those specified areas (wheat or beginning stage 2??).

For me, I'm using the two products for different things (bumps vs red). I

don't know what you are using them for... I may be shooting myself in the

foot for the long term by not using rx cream everyday...I'm new at this and

this may all change... Because the zincs have wax I would use the gel

first, let it soak in and then put on the zinc. I would also try am or pm

to see which works for you, especially if you're using it to decrease red.

As I said, I've used it in the am on some days.

Good luck.
