We don't use nuts at all in our house. I use coconut flour instead

of nut flour and it seems to work out just fine.

This diet is intended to heal leaky gut and starve out pathogenic organisms,

while correcting the situation of malabsorption, thus providing fuel for the

brain and body. Healing the gut simultaneously heals the immune system, 95% of

the immune system is in the digestive system.

This is an old, wholesome diet, and there are alot of current studies of the

gut/brain connection.

Pecanbread is mostly a group of parents, who are striving to recover their

children, from a myriad of health problems, autism to UC. Many of us post our

recovery stories and progress, and helpful tips along the way. Basically, each

of us is our own child's best advocate, best researcher, best helper. I would

suggest reading " Breaking The Vicious Cycle " by Elaine Gottschall immediately,

to understand what the diet is doing. It is not just a special diet. GFCF does

nothing to heal the intestines, it is merely staying away from 2 food proteins.

By being GFCF you directly feed the yeast in the gut, so success, if any, tends

to be limited to staying away from 2 proteins. I have not read anywhere that

GFCF actually heals the intestine. It may be enough for some to stay away from

gluten, but if there is damage (leaky gut) GFCF can only make it worse.

Good luck to you!

I am new to this group, and I will admit that I have not yet invested

in the book. My 5yo son is on the spectrum with yeast/leaky gut AND

anaphylactic reactions to pnuts and tree nuts.

Life is a roller coaster where we do well for 2-4 months and then

regress for no apparent reason.

We have tried GFCF twice with no obvious results. I am trying to

decide if I can muster the energy/money to try SCD without any nuts.

Can you convince me/encourage me to try it? How long before I can

expect to see results?

I can not testifie to the no nuts but know that several on this board

cook without them. I can tell you that we knew within less than 2

weeks that we were on the right road. My son is not on the spectrum

but he would go into unbelievable rages some times 2-3 times a day and

even when he was not raging he would be crabby, oppositional,

agressively mean, destructive, the list goes on.

We have had a couple of regressions but even in the midst of them life

has not been a difficult as it was before the diet change.

When we were first adviced to try this, we were told that we would

know within 3 wks. At the time life was so hard I didn't know how I

was going to add in all the cooking that it was going to take. I made

myself start and although when we went through this last regression I

have to admit I started to question, I can honestly say that I am so

glad we are on this road.

I know that several will answer that don't use the nuts and help you

in that area.

Life isn't easy doing this diet right now but much easier than it was

2 1/2 months ago. Ultimately it is going to have to be you deciding

if you have the change to do this.

Be blessed

Sandy M.

Whole family SCD for 9 wks in support of 5 yr old who rages.
