Guest guest
I've been on ssri's for some years now (currently celexa) and want to taper off it. My only anxiety about this is that my rosacea may worsen. My doctor doesn't have a clue, and after some searching online I don't either. Some posts indicate anecdotally that ssri's (which in a sense increase the level of serotonin) can improve rosacea, while others suggest that serotonin may aggravate rosacea (from which I would reason that getting off the ssri would actually help my rosacea). Can anyone help? Thanks!

Guest guest
I don't know the answer to your question, jf. I doubt it has been studied formally, so anything would be just a guess. ly, as a clinician, I would be more concerned what's going to happen with the primary condition for which Celexa was originally prescribed. If you and your doctor agree that it's appropriate to taper the medication for your primary condition, then that's what is important. It's not like you're going to stay on or get off Celexa for the rosacea, right? So whatever happens to your rosacea, happens. (reminds me of the recent euphemistic haiku exchange with Suzi: " rosacea " happens. ) And even if it worsens, you may now respond to just a readjustment in your maintenance plan in ways you wouldn't have years ago, before the Celexa. Good luck, and let us know how it goes. It sounds like a number of people in this group are on SSRIs (we'll turn Prozac Nation into cea Nation. ) Marjorie Marjorie Lazoff, MD > I've been on ssri's for some years now (currently celexa) and want to taper > off it.
