Guest guest
tj, Your sunscreen may not have been effective because it was after the use expiration date but I think that spf 15 is much too low for rosacea skin and particularly if you are taking a drug which causes photosensitivity. I would use at least an spf of 30. a medication and the sun > >i was told that the tetracyline would make me photosensitive, boy did i find >out the hard way. i have been couped up inside for a week and had to get >outside for a while so i put on some spf15 sunscreen and was outside for >maybe 15-20mins in the bright florida sun. about an hour or so later my face >got so blotchy and red i almost freaked out. then i realized that this too >shall pass as do most of my bouts with rosacea and acne. i couldn't believe >that even after i put on the sunblock that i could still have a reaction. >then i looked at the bottle of sunblock to check out the expiration and lo >and behold it had expired september of last year. i guess this is what was >wrong? i was so desperate for the redness to go down this morning that i put >cortisone cream on half my face to see if it helps. i read the post on aloe >vera so i'll go out in the yard and cut some for me to use today. has anyone >had such a bad reaction to the sun while using the tetracycline? i am taking >500mg 2x per day, and was told to immediately stop using the desonide cream >and cortisone on my face that i have been using for years before i got this >diagnosis. thanks for any input, its greatly appreciated. > >tj > > >
Guest guest
most drug light eruptions are due to long range uva radiation. check to see if your sunscreen contains a physical sunblock, preferably zinc oxide, which will block this range. most chemical suncscreens with the exception of parsol 1789 will not block the required wavelengths, and even parsol can break down in the presense of light, so it generally will not work. tno2 and zno are the only sure bets here, but these can be occlusive and clog pores - not good. use dr sy's zinco product or vanicream spf 15. > > i was told that the tetracyline would make me photosensitive, boy did i find > out the hard way. i have been couped up inside for a week and had to get > outside for a while so i put on some spf15 sunscreen and was outside for > maybe 15-20mins in the bright florida sun. about an hour or so later my face > got so blotchy and red i almost freaked out. then i realized that this too > shall pass as do most of my bouts with rosacea and acne. i couldn't believe > that even after i put on the sunblock that i could still have a reaction. > then i looked at the bottle of sunblock to check out the expiration and lo > and behold it had expired september of last year. i guess this is what was > wrong? i was so desperate for the redness to go down this morning that i put > cortisone cream on half my face to see if it helps. i read the post on aloe > vera so i'll go out in the yard and cut some for me to use today. has anyone > had such a bad reaction to the sun while using the tetracycline? i am taking > 500mg 2x per day, and was told to immediately stop using the desonide cream > and cortisone on my face that i have been using for years before i got this > diagnosis. thanks for any input, its greatly appreciated. > > tj > > >

Guest guest
I would suggest wearing a broad brimmed hat (with the brim being 4 " ) in the bright sun. Also, keep reapplying a zinc oxide or titanium dioxide based sunblock every two hours. I've heard that oils on the skin can cause sunblock minerals to move around on your face leaving certain areas more exposed than others. I'm going to South Florida next month to visit inlaws, so your post reminded me to bring my hat and plenty of ZincO. Take care, Matija > > > > i was told that the tetracyline would make me photosensitive, boy > did i find > > out the hard way. i have been couped up inside for a week and had > to get > > outside for a while so i put on some spf15 sunscreen and was > outside for > > maybe 15-20mins in the bright florida sun. about an hour or so > later my face > > got so blotchy and red i almost freaked out. then i realized that > this too > > shall pass as do most of my bouts with rosacea and acne. i > couldn't believe > > that even after i put on the sunblock that i could still have a > reaction. > > then i looked at the bottle of sunblock to check out the expiration > and lo > > and behold it had expired september of last year. i guess this is > what was > > wrong? i was so desperate for the redness to go down this morning > that i put > > cortisone cream on half my face to see if it helps. i read the > post on aloe > > vera so i'll go out in the yard and cut some for me to use today. > has anyone > > had such a bad reaction to the sun while using the tetracycline? i > am taking > > 500mg 2x per day, and was told to immediately stop using the > desonide cream > > and cortisone on my face that i have been using for years before i > got this > > diagnosis. thanks for any input, its greatly appreciated. > > > > tj > > > > > >
