Guest guest
" Well, I'm sorry to say my daughter had to go off the SCD diet. After an extensive blood testing, it was discovered she's severely allergic to dairy and almonds. Has this occurred to anyone else here? " There are plenty of ways to stay on SCD without using dairy or almonds. Being allergic to those two things does not mean she cannot be on SCD. Plus, what type of test was it? IgE or IgG? Guest guest
Well, I'm not sure which test - she's an adult and has those results, but the almond flour and the dairy products were a mainstay in her diet. I just wondered whether having an autoimmune disease like this could have " brought on " the allergies?? Also, if anyone wants to buy some almond flour, cheap, never been opened, let me know. Daughter, uc. 26. Thank you for your reply. > > Just so you know, I don't eat dairy or almonds > > > >From: " Jody G. Guest guest
I understand that almonds and dairy products were a mainstay of her diet, but that doesn't mean that she cannot adapt and move away from those foods while maintaining herself 100% SCD. Nut allergies tend to be very dramatic. If she is not really sick (and most likely hospitalized) from eating the almonds, my guess is that the test was an IgG test, which shows intolerances or more likely will show positive to whatever the person has been eating IF the person has leaky gut problems. An IgG test does not indicate " allergy " in the same way that an IgE test does. People can die from IgE allergies to nuts. If she switches her diet to eating other foods and she has another IgG test done, it will show positive for the new foods she has switched to. This will continue to happen until her gut heals up and is no longer " leaky " . Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/
Guest guest
Jody, Thank you for this explanation. I'll have to ask about which test it was. Of course, the million dollar question is, why would a doctor tell her not to eat these things if she hadn't developed an intolerence to those. I'm very confused, and we're both tired and frustrated here. I'm guessing you're right, and that an intolerance to whatever she eats most of will develop because of the leaky gut. I'm not sure what I'm trying to say, but are you saying she could still eat the almond flour and dairy? Sorry, I don't mean to be dense, but we're running out of options, and the symptoms were so terrible since April last year that she's lost a ton of weight. Thank you again, and Bless you all. Guest guest
, Sounds as if you have control of things with your two babies. I'm so happy for you - it's so much easier when they're tiny, and under your control. My heart breaks for my daughter, and I'm just trying to guide her a bit. She's seeing a hygenist right now, who may end up doing a fast with her. I have had the same thoughts about Sheep or Goat's milk and cheeses. I'm sure when it's time, she'll be able to move onto those things. And yes, I believe it's a good idea to stick with SCD - she'll be doing cashews now instead of almonds, however. Thank you all again for your support. , hugs to the little ones. PS. Does Ghee qualify as dairy, do you know? SCDBOB > Well, I'm sorry to say my daughter had to go off the SCD diet. Does Ghee qualify as dairy, do you know? > SCDBOB Just an FYI, cashew are harder to digest than almonds - they are " starchier " . Pecans and almonds (blanched) are the easiest to digest. Ghee should be dairy free. Sheila, SCD 59 mos, 22 yrs UC mom of and
