Guest guest
" Well, I'm sorry to say my daughter had to go off the SCD diet. After an extensive blood testing, it was discovered she's severely allergic to dairy and almonds. Has this occurred to anyone else here? " There are plenty of ways to stay on SCD without using dairy or almonds. Being allergic to those two things does not mean she cannot be on SCD. Plus, what type of test was it? IgE or IgG? Guest guest
Well, I'm not sure which test - she's an adult and has those results, but the almond flour and the dairy products were a mainstay in her diet. I just wondered whether having an autoimmune disease like this could have " brought on " the allergies?? Also, if anyone wants to buy some almond flour, cheap, never been opened, let me know. Daughter, uc. 26. Thank you for your reply. > > Just so you know, I don't eat dairy or almonds > > > >From: " Jody G. Guest guest
I understand that almonds and dairy products were a mainstay of her diet, but that doesn't mean that she cannot adapt and move away from those foods while maintaining herself 100% SCD. Nut allergies tend to be very dramatic. If she is not really sick (and most likely hospitalized) from eating the almonds, my guess is that the test was an IgG test, which shows intolerances or more likely will show positive to whatever the person has been eating IF the person has leaky gut problems. An IgG test does not indicate " allergy " in the same way that an IgE test does. People can die from IgE allergies to nuts. If she switches her diet to eating other foods and she has another IgG test done, it will show positive for the new foods she has switched to. This will continue to happen until her gut heals up and is no longer " leaky " . Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/
Guest guest
Tell me again how long she has been on SCD. Did she start with the intro diet and add foods slowly? You mentioned a diet heavy in almonds and dairy. What else does she eat now? (Elaine recommended no more than the equivalent of 3 muffins per day.) Guest guest
You don't have to use dairy or almonds on this diet. Many don't. Guest guest
My son and daughter do SCD with no diary, nuts (or peanuts) or eggs due to severe " true " allergies. They get calcium supplements and do just fine. I wonder if your daughter's diary allergy would include goats or sheep's yogurt and cheese. My son can't do either but with the little drop my daughter had she was fine with goats yogurt. Her reactions are never as severe. For the opportunity to heal, I would think it would be worth it to try goats or sheep's yogurt and cheese. But even if she is allergic she can still do SCD. Guest guest
Jody, Right now she's on fruits, veggies, cooked only, fresh, organic fish or chicken (chicken is a slight allergy too). She thought it was weird that she'd be allergic to lobster and shrimp - these were her " splurge " foods once in a while. We've been making our own yogurt, she used lots of eggs, and really, in the past two months, she didn't eat that much of the almond flour, because it felt too " heavy " for her. Basically, she started SCD in March of '05, and had a rocky road, sometimes going off the diet for the evening. Since she's an adult, there wasn't much I could do about it. Anyway, it's a concern, because just how much more foods will she develop an allergy to. Thank you for responding - any thoughts are always welcome. Guest guest
, Sounds as if you have control of things with your two babies. I'm so happy for you - it's so much easier when they're tiny, and under your control. My heart breaks for my daughter, and I'm just trying to guide her a bit. She's seeing a hygenist right now, who may end up doing a fast with her. I have had the same thoughts about Sheep or Goat's milk and cheeses. I'm sure when it's time, she'll be able to move onto those things. And yes, I believe it's a good idea to stick with SCD - she'll be doing cashews now instead of almonds, however. Thank you all again for your support. , hugs to the little ones. PS. Does Ghee qualify as dairy, do you know? SCDBOB > Well, I'm sorry to say my daughter had to go off the SCD diet.
