Guest guest
I am very new here and to posting so it may be wrong, but I am replying to the posted that I pasted below. My son is 14 and he had his first attack in Feb this year and has been hospitalized 4 times since then. He is only being maintained on IV with pain meds and I've asked if we can do this at home. I've been told no. I keep thinking that every hospitalization will be the last...but. I'd like to have the option IF there is a next time. Any ideas on how to get info. THank you, SL My email addy is marblejar4@... " My son, age 15 has pancreatitis attacks about once a month or so. We have spent more days than we can even count in the hospital. We just started home health care. It is wonderful!!! When he starts having an attack, we get him to his doctor or ER to do bloodwork and examine him to make sure nothing else is going on. Then, they contact the home health care nurses and they meet us at our house. They start the IV's and give him his pain meds. There is a nurse on call 24-7. If he needs more pain meds, they come back and give it. If he blows an IV, they come replace it. One night we had trouble with the IV pump. It wouldn't stop beeping so I called and the nurse walked me through fixing it. Then, they return in the morning to draw blood and we head back to the doc's office for another exam. My son is so excited. We were way more comfortable at home and he even got up and chatted on the internet a little bit which made him feel like he wasn't so out of touch with his friends. Another great thing is that my insurance covers it as " Alternative Care " and pays 100% on anything related to his care at home. That will help so much. This last attack, my out of pocket expenses were $40.00. THank you, SL My email addy is marblejar4@...> Dear SL; Sometimes determining factors in Home Health Care are whether it is available where you live and if your doctor is willing to work with you in getting a referral approved with your insurance company. I would go ahead and ask your doctor to start the referral process (and don't let a first denial stop you - be sure to appeal). Also, please feel free to post any questions and we always appreciate updates. Hope you and your family had a good weekend, Gail West þ Many People, Many Faces, One Voice Indiana State Chapter Representative Pancreatitis Association International http://www.pancassociation.org contactPAIgwest@... è marblejar5@...marblejar5@...
