Guest guest
I am very new here and to posting so it may be wrong, but I am replying to the posted that I pasted below. My son is 14 and he had his first attack in Feb this year and has been hospitalized 4 times since then. He is only being maintained on IV with pain meds and I've asked if we can do this at home. I've been told no. I keep thinking that every hospitalization will be the last...but. I'd like to have the option IF there is a next time. Any ideas on how to get info. THank you, SL My email addy is marblejar4@... " My son, age 15 has pancreatitis attacks about once a month or so. We have spent more days than we can even count in the hospital. We just started home health care. It is wonderful!!! When he starts having an attack, we get him to his doctor or ER to do bloodwork and examine him to make sure nothing else is going on. Then, they contact the home health care nurses and they meet us at our house. They start the IV's and give him his pain meds. There is a nurse on call 24-7. If he needs more pain meds, they come back and give it. If he blows an IV, they come replace it. One night we had trouble with the IV pump. It wouldn't stop beeping so I called and the nurse walked me through fixing it. Then, they return in the morning to draw blood and we head back to the doc's office for another exam. My son is so excited. We were way more comfortable at home and he even got up and chatted on the internet a little bit which made him feel like he wasn't so out of touch with his friends. Another great thing is that my insurance covers it as " Alternative Care " and pays 100% on anything related to his care at home. That will help so much. This last attack, my out of pocket expenses were $40.00. Guest guest
Hi , I don't know who told you that IV's can't be maintained at home, because this is exactly what I do. I have a port-a-cath inplanted in the right side of my chest. I've done IV rehydration, IV pain & nausea meds and IV antibiotics at home. All I need the nurse to do is access my port, and I do everything else myself. I have it so I can stay out of the hospital. I got it started by having my doctor write an order for whatever is needed, and they contact the home health care nurses agency. I like it alot better than being in the hospital! I got divorced last October, and now that I have full custody of my girls, he isn't allowed to have them overnight, because he is a drunk, so its nice being able to stay at home. Good Luck, and I hope you find someone to help you with this situation! I am so sorry your son has to suffer so much. I have 3 daughters, the twins, Holly & Halie are 12 and Amy is 15. I know how rough this is on your family. Hang in there kid, and if there is anything I can do for you, please let me know. Lots of Hugs, ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am very new here and to posting so it may be wrong, but I am replying to the posted that I pasted below. My son is 14 and he had his first attack in Feb this year and has been hospitalized 4 times since then.
