My constipation is gone now even without the prunes. :-) 2) What is a legal tea that I can drink with breakfast? I just use organic english breakfast tea made weak with a little honey in it. Actually, it's made very weak at this point. For some reason, SCD has made me not enjoy it as strong - and I used to like it REALLY strong! LOL. There's one brand here that goes from green to black, without a nice phase in between. So, maybe try a different brand. Dole seems to work best for us. Guest guest
Dear Steph, Thanks for the reply. This is so helpful! I do live in the US . . . Virginia, actually. Can you just buy any prune juice? Does it need to be brand specific? Do I need to pay attention to special ingredients? Do you know anything about prune nectar (I got the feeling that Elaine preferred that over the juice)? I have never heard of organic English breakfast tea. Can I find this in any grocery store or is it a health food store item? Concerning the zucchini . . . would a slow oven be the same as a crockpot, regular oven, or oven roaster? Is ghee a cheese? We have to be casein free because my guys make opiates from the casein. But we will be trying out tomatoes shortly since we are almost ready for phase 2. I am anxious to try out your zucchini idea. And a not related question . . . what is Aspie? Jeni Lynn, undiagnosed gastrointestinal problems, SCD-to-be again

Guest guest
I researched under constipation and found out my son may need more fiber in his diet but it seems fiber is made off everything he cant have. I know there weren't a lot of choices. LOL. Just make sure there's no added sugar on the label. I couldn't find prune nectar, but I don't think I looked very hard. I really used prunes themselves more, because they just taste good. :-) I have never heard of organic English breakfast tea. Can I find this in any > grocery store or is it a health food store item? Yeah, health food store. You don't have to buy organic. Just plain old black tea works (Lipton, Tetley etc). Just stay away from a lot of the herbal teas which have non-SCD-legal herbs in them. You can make tea from peppermint, spearmint or ginger if you like. But I like good old plain tea. Concerning the zucchini . . . would a slow oven be the same as a crockpot, > regular oven, or oven roaster? Do you have Breaking the Vicious Cycle? I think the temp. is like 275, but my book is downstairs right now. Regular oven. If you don't have the book, I'll type in the recipe tomorrow for ya. Is ghee a cheese? Ghee is clarified butter - casein and lactose free. We use Purity Farms brand, which is organic and from grassfed cows. You could just use whatever kind of fat you like on them, if you'd like to. Or, just a little salt would probably be good, too. We have to be casein free because my guys make opiates from the casein. We're casein free, too. Someone with Asperger Syndrome, part of the autism spectrum. I just found out about 9 months ago. Mostly, finding out helped me to understand why I'm a little bit different from most people (just a little quirky). :-) Steph, SCD 2 1/2 months (restarted) -- http://www.PraiseMoves.com The Christian Alternative to Yoga

Guest guest
Hi Sheila, Your answers are very direct, specific, and helpful! Thank you! Today is my fist day on SCD, and I am very excited about the prospect of healing. I have already noticed (since my kids have been doing SCD for over 2 months) that adhering to this diet causes a social stigma. Countless times I have been questioned and confronted about putting my kids on this diet. Especially in the area we live (where everyone is obese because they believe fried chicken, pork -n- beans out of a can, and chocolate cake are staples in a healthy diet ), people think we are harming our kids by putting them on a restricted diet. My point is that I need a cheerleader about now because there aren't too many in my physical surroundings. Thanks for volunteering! I am sure that I will have many questions to ask as I go along. I am grateful for individuals like you who are willing to take the time and answer. You guys are the ones that make this a viable possibility for many of us. You are to be commended. Guest guest
Hi Jenni Lynn, > I have already noticed (since my kids have been doing SCD for over 2 months) that adhering to this diet causes a social stigma. Countless times I have been questioned and confronted about putting my kids on this diet. I get that a lot. Some people are actually interested, some ask out of boredom and unfortunately some people just want to be rude. > Especially in the area we live (where everyone is obese because they believe fried chicken, pork -n- beans out of a can, and chocolate cake are staples in a healthy diet ), people think we are harming our kids by putting them on a restricted diet. I find it very depressing looking at other people's grocery carts these days. They are piled high with all sorts of " convenience " foods full of empty calories and worse. I take comfort in knowing that some people close to me have changed their eating habits opting for healthier choices after seeing what a difference the it has made in my families life. > My point is that I need a cheerleader about now because there aren't too many in my physical surroundings. But I do what I can - soups for after school snack, e.g., and today, dip with mayo and Lucy's It. dressing recipe, and vegetable sticks since I'm in a rush. I don't use hydrogenated fat in baking and try to sneak in whole wheat pastry flour (for the non-SCDers) and I do most of my cooking and baking from scratch.
