Hi. I used Aclovate for years and it destroyed my skin and my life.

My doctor did not tell me it was a steroid cream. He told me that i

could use it for the rest of my life and it would never hurt me. He

told me to use it every day and i did. He is now the head of

Dermatology at one of the best hospitals in the U.S. and has a

wonderful reputation.

I will say, though, if your doctor told you to use it for a few days

only and that's it, then i am sure that it will not hurt you. I don't

know anyone with any skin condition that is healed in a few days, but

it is worth a try. I would then put away the Aclovate and not use it

again for several months. I have a friend with cea who used

Aclovate(her doctor told her to use it every day) and when i found

out what she was using , I made her stop. Her rosacea immediately got

worse and she is now back to using the steroid cream because she

can't control it without it. Her doctor told her again that she

should use it. I had photoderm with a doctor who has rosacea and she

told me i should be using a steroid cream every day. She said that

she does. Needless to say, I won't be going back to her.

I can only advise that I would try EVERYTHING else before you try the

Aclovate. Your skin will seem better at first and it will quickly

become dependent. I did not even have rosacea when i was given the

cream; just a touch of eczema. I lay in bed at night and wonder what

my life would be like if someone had told me right away not to use

it. I certainly don't want you to have to be doing that one day.

The best to you.

Ann

I agree completely with everything in this post and the other post by

Adam--the steroids do not solve this problem--in fact, nothing cures seb

derm.

The best plan of action in my opinion is to minimize the outbreaks as much

as possible with as little side effects as possible (steroid induced

rosacea, which I have is a big side effect of steroids).

I have been using Elidel for the last 10 days and to me, thus far, this is

the best treatment for this condition that I have tried--I have used

Desowen, Nizoral, and other anti-fungals. I have changed my diet

dramatically--no dairy, no alcohol, no sugars, low carbs only, no fruit--I

eat only proteins and vegetables and a few low carbs--and I feel great on

this diet, lost 20 pounds in 6 weeks, and have plenty of energy, more

" regular " if you know what I mean.

Back to Elidel--I would ask your derm to give you either this or Protopic

before the steroids--for me, the Elidel has been much more effective than

steroids ever were--yes the steroids will clear you for a few days, but you

probably have 30 or more years to live so what is the point of using

steroids to just clear you for a few days--it is not a long term solution

for seb derm.

I am not sure yet if the Elidel is long term solution either but to me this

stuff is incredible--my face feels normal for the first time in 2 years--I

am full of regret, however, and do blame my doctor for putting me on the

steroids which have have caused permanent redness in specific areas, grossly

enlarged pores, and thinner skin--Protopic has been on the market for over a

year and he never told me about this--if he had, perhaps I would not be

visiting the cea board every day looking for advice

Do not trust your doctor because he has MD after his name--take a poll on

this site and the seb derm site and see how many people (other than doctors)

have anything postive to say about steroid use--out of the thousands of

posts, if you could find more than two people who suggest that steroids are

good I would be suprised
