Kim,

If you wouldn't mind I'd love it if you could email me the

information you have on Magnesium. to seabeewife2@...

I find all of this " alternative " medicine so intriguing and I'm very

interested in educating myself more so I can begin doing this with

Wyatt. Thank you so much everyone for all of the advice!

Hi Christy,

If it's not too much trouble, could you drop me an email privately?

Then I can attach the documents to send you. I'm not trying to be

covert, I'm simply trying to manage my email.

I want to just point out one thing -- magnesium is not an " alternative

medicine. " Magnesium is the second most abundant cation in the body

and crucial to cellular activity and function. So it's particularily

frustrating that most of our doctors overlook this when it's right in

front of their faces. There are textbooks, conferences, and continual

medical studies devoted entirely to the role and importance of

magnesium.

Magnesium is an alkaline mineral, abundant in the body, soil, and

particularly sea water and sea systems. Unfortunately, due to

over-farming practices soils are severely depleted of magnesium,

particularily along the Great Lakes regions. When soils are depleted

of magnesium, then our food sources are depleted.

Additionally, our water sources have become magnesium deficient. If

you have a water softener in your home you should *not* be drinking

that water! Water that has been softened is too high in sodium -- the

water is soft because minerals have been removed, leading to mineral

deficiencies. You might get cleaner clothes and water pipes that

aren't corroded, but you're severely screwing up your body.

Absolutely but I " m not sure what your email is or how you can tell

I say " alternative " because I don't know what to call it when you

are using natural herbs and minerals verses " medicines "

Kim,

Just want to jump in on this conversation. We have bottled spring water

delivered weekly, and were thinking of having a water purifier added to our

kitchen taps. Do you think this may be harmful?

Hi ,

First, I think you're fortunate to have bottled spring water available

to you. There are companies that deliver bottled water in the US but

you have to examine whether the minerals have been removed, otherwise

it's just no better than tap water, except maybe chlorine has been

removed.

I think a water filter or purifier is always a good idea, but I'm not

familiar with the systems in Australia, and I'm sure there are

differences between the US and Australia.

In the US, there are several systems for filtering water. You can buy

pitchers that have disposal cartridges in them. You pour water in the

top of the pitcher and it runs through the filter into the bottom of

the pitcher, so then you have clean water free from chlorine and some

harmful organisms. (Pur and Brita are examples of two companies that

make filtering water pitchers. Both of my children and I have Brita

water pitchers to use for cooking and drinking.)

You can also buy a filtering cartridge that you attach to your faucet,

so the water coming out of your faucet is filtered (Pur makes this

type, I'm not sure about Brita.)

Then there are more elaborate filtering systems that either sit on

your counter and attach to your faucet, or attach underneath the sink.

and then there are reverse osmosis types of water filters. But I think

I read somewhere that this also removes minerals, which isn't a good

idea.

The water softener I spoke about is often used in homes or communities

where they have hard water -- that is, water with lots of minerals.

These minerals can collect in water pipes eroding them, and it also

means your soap must work harder to clean the clothes.

The problem is of course, if you always drink water that has been

softened then you are NEVER getting any natural minerals from your

water -- and water is a good, natural source of magnesium. Softened

water contains too much sodium.

In communitites that have softened water, you see higher incidence of

heart disease and magnesium-deficiency symptoms. Many US hotels

install water softeners because it's easier on the pipes, and they can

use less detergent to clean towels and dishes, which saves money. You

can always tell if you're at a hotel with soft water because when you

try to rinse shampoo out of your hair, you keep rinsing and rinsing

because your hair feels so soft that you think surely there must still

be creamy shampoo in your hair.

I hope this clears up my water post. I try to remember that we have

members from around the world on the list, but sometimes I forget and

refer to how things are in the US.

Sadly, sometimes the US government and US companies live by the

philosophy: " If a little is good, then more must be better! "

(That's only my philosophy for good chocolate!) But this is what

our government has done to our water -- adding too much of certain

things and taking out nearly all the good things.

Here's a web site for you to compare bottled water from around the

world. Look at the shockingly low levels of magnesium in US water

compared to other countries. It's really criminal!
