Donna,

I have watched with interest the last few days, the discussion on flax oil..

I stumbled over a site about problem skin, specifically acne, which I was

researching for one of my daughters.. on this site.. they talked about how

important Essential Fatty Acids were, but they made a really big deal about

making sure to balance all three--- Omega 3-6 and 9... that if you didn't it

causes imbalances in other places.. and that for initial skin improvement you

need to take for 10 days straight.. the following

1 1/2 teaspoons of Flax oil 2x per day

1 teaspoon Evening Primrose oil 2x per day

1 Teaspoon of Borage oil 2x per day

1 Tablespoon Lecithin 2x per day

800 iu of E per day

beta carotene 150,000 -300,000 iu per day

zinc --- no more than 100 mg

magnesium aspartate, or glyconate minimum of 900 mg per day

calcium 1500 milligrams.. magnesium should be 2 parts to calcium 1

50-200 mcgs of selenium

saw palmetto 80-95% fatty acids-- 160-320 mg per day

MSM-- 20,000-30,000- PERDAY

take extra calcium and primrose oil and mag during cycles.

Avoid hydrogenated oils.. (Barry has touted this)

They say, experiment with it.. we are all different and the fried foods and

hydrogenated foods and low fat diet play havoc with our EFA's .. it should be

in a range of 1-3 tablespoons of flax, 1-2 teaspoons of borage, and 1-2

teaspoons of primrose oil 2-3 times a day.

Spread the high beta carotene dose throughout the day...this shrinks oil

glands.. and it is non toxic. you might get a slight yellow tint, but your

skin will return to normal when you cut back. after 10 days drop to

50,000-75,000

take high dose E for only 5-10 days 2,000-3,000 throughout day for 5-10 days,

then drop back to 800 iu.

take B vitamin supplement

anyway.. it is the balancing that seemed so very important in the article..

might be worth a try..

I'm interested in the fatty acid regime described below. It's well thought

out, and someone's tried to make sure it's balanced.

What concerns me a bit is the sheer quantity of oil being consumed. The

amounts below are already on or slightly over the recommended dietary intake

of fats/oils, without the extra from normal food consumption.

No matter how healthy these oils are, they are still a major

calorie/kilojoule source.

I'd like to hear any comments on this.

Thanks
