Guest guest
> > Hello my fellow pancreatitis sufferers, > > I just got home from the emergency room. I've been having really bad pain in my mid epigastric region of my stomach which is radiating into my back and side. ...and went to the ER Friday morning. They gave me 1 bag of fluids and sent me home. ...... I decided to go back to the ER tonight because I couldn't handle my symptoms at home. .....The ER doctor told me that he didn't think I needed to be in the hospital. ...... The ER doctor ended up giving me an antispasmodic medication. .... It feels like an elephant is stomping on my insides..... My husband called the GI practice where I am seen and spoke to a new GI doctor on call who doesn't know me or my situation. The GI doctor was convinced that it wasn't pancreatitis because my lipase did not elevate..... I have to try to eat and drink something so I do not get dehydrated, but what do I do now? > , I'm sorry you have been feeling so poorly and getting so much skepticism from the ER docs. You should try to eat at all anything for a couple days, if you were admitted they would have put you on liquids only or TPN if you were to stay longer. Try to stay on clear liquids and total bed rest for now. You could call your doctor's office and ask to speak with YOUR GI, not whoever's on call, to see if he will either see you or call in to ER on your behalf if he thinks you need to be admitted. As far as the ER goes, did you carry the medical summary sheet we have mentioned many times in this forum with you when you went to the ER? Most patients that carry this and show it to the docs in the ER recieve little if any resistance. There is no denial of their condition and usually the result is fast and attentive medication for nausea and pain. This one or two page summary can make ER admissions so much easier for all. If you don't have one of these forms prepared, I suggest you follow the sample form that can be found at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pancreatitis/files/ under the heading " Sample MR " . I hope this information is of use to you, and that you are feeling better soon. With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H.
