San, I have a high-positive ANA test result (every time I am tested, the

same number comes up) and I have rosacea and no other problems. However,

my daughter has Lupus and my grand daughter has Juvenile Arthritis. The

doctors I've been to say it is autoimmune connected and

probably runs in the family and that nothing has triggered any other

problems for me. I've been lucky. The doctors also like me to be checked

every year for potential kidney problems that could sneak up.

I also have a positive ANA and just went through all the auto-immune

disorder testings. THankfully everything came out negative, but my

doctor suggested annual testing also.

Does anyone know if studies have been done on the connection between

a positive ANA and cea. It seems that quite a few people have

this similarityl.

Dana, there is a known association (not cause-effect or relationship,

just an association) between some immune mediated disorders and/or

some autoimmune disorders, and rosacea. There is also an association

between a positive ANA -- as you note, a laboratory test finding that

in isolation is not indicative of any disorder -- and all these

disorders.

There may well be something immunogenic involved in rosacea, although

the exact pathophysiology has not been worked out. Alternatively, it

may be that the genes that modulate rosacea are on the same

chromosome and close to the genes that control the immunologic

process involved in these disorders, so that the disorders " travel

together " as do the genes on the chromosomes, within the same person

or family.

As I've shared with the group before, my opinion is that something

more complicated is going on here, since we know rosacea appears much

more commonly in the fair and sensitive skinned, and that's not true

with these immune-mediated findings and disorders.
