Guest guest
I know that everyone pain tolerance is different, but so far this has helped me a lot Your experience was well said Louie, I have somewhat discovered this aspect also but even now I still make mistakes. However, I agree with you. You must be aware and know your own symptoms and try to medicate yourself in the best manner. It is a razor edge to try to follow but it seems it must be done in the case of Chronic Panc. You have to have the pain med that works for you and the Dr. that will provide the script. The idea is to get to the point where you can live as well as possible with all things considered. Again, Louie, well said best wishes, Poncho - GA
Guest guest
Louie and , I was told the same thing as Louie during my pain management class. You want to control the pain. So they usually put you on a long lasting pain pill that you take all the time, whether or not you are in pain. Then, only after that, if I'm still in pain, do I take the breaththrough pain meds. I've found that when I religiously take the long lasting pain meds, I rarely have to touch the breakthrough meds. It has made a huge difference in my quality of life. I have quite a few pain free days because of this. If I forget to take one pill, I'm in a lot more pain and it takes more breakthrough meds to get it under control than if I just take my daily schedule of long term pain meds. I was also told the following by my pain management physicians about addiction:. If you take pain medication for pain you will not become addicted. Addiction is a behavior of taking pain medication for reasons other than pain. Yes you will probably become dependent upon the pain meds, but this is different than addiction. As long as you taper down slowly, you will not have problems with withdrawl. Once you have tapered down slowly, you will not psychologically need the pain meds (assuming the cause of the pain has been taken care of and you are no longer in pain.) like someone who is addicted needs them. There is huge difference between addiction and physical dependence. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@...
