Do you think the FDA should be regulating these products? > Joe, I cannot speak for the other products but ZincO, being an OTC sunscreen-drug product, is required to follow FDA regulatory monograph for such a classification. ZincO is manufactured by a FDA approved pharmaceutical laboratory. I don't know how long you have been a participant in this support group but the idea of ZincO was " conceived and born " right here with the help of many members including Dr. Nase, who contributed their input. The idea was to develop a formulation that will protect rosacean skin against flushing-triggers such as the sun, wind, cold and heat. Zinc Oxide, which has a soothing anti-inflammatory action, coupled by its sun-protective property, was chosen as the active ingredient. The silicones were used in the vehicle to form an effective barrier. Great care and attention were devoted to eliminate irritating ingredients. The final product took a whole year to formulate and was tested by members here. Even though many members attested to the benefits their skin derived from Zinco, there is no claim on its label touting it as a rosacea treatment. At our website, Zinco is categorized under sunscreen and not under treatment products. I personally believe ZO to be an adjunctive product and have advised rosaceans to continue their prescribed medical treatments. Furthermore, not all rosaceans can use ZO, which is no surprise to anyone in this support group :-).
