Hehe...talk about acquiring stuff. Triana's first Yuletide, she was only 6

months old, so we didn't worry about what was on the tree. We didn't put one up

at all last year, we were so busy and so tired from a local club that my husband

was President of (but I was actually doing the majority of the scheduling and

paperwork on...plus the websites. This year, I was elected President...despite

the fact that I didn't run for the office.) Well, I managed to step down early

after the elections were held earlier this month (gave them a number of excuses,

including that CPT takes up a lot of my time now...which is entirely true...just

not the entire truth about why I wanted away from the group...) They were happy

to let next year's Pres take over officially, anyhow, since I had not been

participating much since about June due to the burnout of basically holding the

office for 2 years, regardless of whether or not I had the official title. So,

this year, I've got less committment than I did last year, and have been able to

put up the tree, bake a whole bunch, etc.

Well, we really wondered about the tree and what we were going to put on it,

seeing as how we felt that glass ornaments plus a 2.5 year old was a bad

combination. So we figured, well, we'll put all of our non-breakable ornaments

on, and the cookie-type ornaments I made last year, and see how much space we

still have left over that we need to buy ornaments for. Wow...we were really

surprised. We had to put ornaments back into the boxes because we had run out

of room! I had totally forgotten that I had numerous Coca-Cola bears wearing

Santa hats, plus a whole bunch of cute little drums. Add to that the cookie

ornaments (nice fall leaves, gingerbread people, stars, etc.) and all of my

husband's brass ornaments (one for every year he's been alive) and the new

little wooden ones I got with a gift certificate, and we had an over-full tree.

We topped it off with the Holly King in a nice silver and blue robe, and used

our lovely soft globe lights (very small globes in jewel tones) on the tree.

Everyone really likes how it looks, and I'm quite happy with it...but we somehow

acquired a whole lot of ornaments without ever really realizing it.

Anyhow, Happy Holidays (of whichever one or ones you happen to celebrate) to all

of you!

Re: traditions

Shanna,

Sounds so much like my first Christmas in my new apartment! It took

everything I had to make the move and it was my first apartment all alone.

I had two lounge chairs (like for sunbathing), a big box for the living room

and a 3' square table for my dining room--no chairs.

All I could afford was this little white tree and a yard of red and white

gingham material. I cut the material into strips and made bows. There was

enough for one bow on each branch and that was all. Over the years I have

managed to acquire so much stuff and yet, the little white tree has always

brings a smile to my face.

From a country girl used to living in small (three digit population) towns,

to a big city like Houston, I was out in the big ole world all alone and I

was surviving.

At least I had a bed to sleep in. And a portable 8-track tape player-LOL.

Thankx for the memories!

Have a very Merry Christmas all around the world and a truly wonderful New

Year!

Love to all.

Aunt B
