Hi gang: I have an allergy to nickel, which is a commonly used alloy

in white gold and costume jewelry. Dermatitis from Nickel is

actaully very common. I cant wear jewelry unless it's real, yellow

gold. Anyway, anyone think it's possible some of the " mineral "

ingredients in the mineral foundations are derived from metals that

may contain nickel? I am thinking this may be what causes the

itching and hives for me. Seems to be a stretch, but there has to

be some explanation.

Hi Patty,

I was tested for allergies and tested positive to nickel also. My derm

actually told me to watch out for certain make-up's because, yes some of them

contain nickel. So it is definitly possible that that could be what's

causing your itching and hives. I don't use foundation and basically try to

use as little make up as possible (just basically wear eye makeup). Why

don't you try cutting out your foundation/powder for a week or so and see if

the itching goes away. That's the only sure fire way to tell if its the

culprit.

Good Luck,

Donna

That sounds very reasonable to me. I guess I am also allergic to nickel -- I

can't wear costume jewelry, I break out. I also broke out in HUGE bumps when I

tried Jane Iredale foundation. I also break out in hives frequently, though

not just on my face.
