Guest guest
Hi Leigh: I lost 14 pounds from surgery on 5/31 to clinic on 6/whatever (6 days). I was please but do realize that Dr. R told us at clinic that may of us have a tremendous amount of water. I had terrible edema. It was so bad that my legs and feet would sting by noon. What's funny now is that there is NO swelling at all and my feet literally are wrinkled from loose skin from the seven or so years of horrible swelling in my feet. I have had no arthritis meds at all and do not need them. I have no aches or pains in my feet or my ankles or legs. That in itself would be worth having the surgery for. Yesterday Drema and I went to Wal-Mart. She pulled up to the door. For years they've had to drop me off at the door because of my feet and ankles. I told her to park, that I needed the exercise. She laughed and said, " this I'll have to get used to Mom " . She just looks at my feet and shakes her head. My family cannot believe that the swelling left and hasn't come back. I am sleeping soundly for the first time in many years. I do not wake up all night long and have to get up and sit in the recliner. I don't know why...but that too is gone. I was never diagnosed with sleep apnea but I am pretty sure now that I sleep all night that I must have had it. My reflux is still with me but to a lesser extent. I do have some burning but Dr. R had me double up on my Prevacid and that seems to have helped a lot. Trish got me eating tums...I hadn't been and she encouraged me to do so and I found that very helpful. The supplements are expensive. I checked out Wal-Mart and a few other places and ended up going to GNC and just got everything there. I got vitamin A and vitamin E and the other three supplements, whey, creatine and glutamine. I got the small containers even though they had a great buy. I'm not a very disciplined person about that stuff so when I get to the end of the jars, I'll just get the bargain size if I see that I have disciplined myself into using them. Another thing I did that has helped. Janet and Trish carried a soft side cooler with them and they had juice and yogurt, etc. in it. I picked one up and I keep one packed in the frig. I take it with me if I'm going to be gone from home for more than an hour or so. It helps to have it there and I do find if I have it, I will sip even if it's just water. I've never drank a lot so it's a real challenge for me to even sip on stuff. I always drank a lot of liquids with meals. I do miss my Diet Cokes from time to time and have not yet found a drink that I care that much for. But time will change that and I'm sure I'll find a new drink that I like a lot. I buy apple juices at Wal-Mart with straw attached and probably costs more but I've been buying the sugar free jello at the supermarket instead of making it. It's worth the little extra to have itZS Re: 1 month post-op report >Thnaks Flo - glad to hear you're doing well - how's the weight loss? >Tell me about the supplements - I haven't done that yet.
