Guest guest
DAN is a " Defeat AUtism Now " doctor who treats autism as a biomedical condition that has behavioral and physcial symtpoms, not as a pscyhological condition. Most DAN doctors have concluded that some kind of environmental assault causes autism, such as the mercury in vacinnes or the environment. Many DAN doctors have given up a mainstream career to save their child or to follow the research that goes against what the mainstream wants to believe. THe research is robust and there are lots of studies to back up the approach. THe best place in my opinion to get started learning about this is: www.generationrescue.com This site will link you to other sites. DAN was started by Bernard Rimland, who singlehandedly ended the terrible belief in the early 60's that " refrigerator moms " caused autism by writing a book proving it was a biomedical condition and NOT caused by the Moms. He did the research because his son was born autistic and he knew his wife did not cause it because she was very loving and because her older child was fine. Can you imagine not only dealing with an ill child but being blamed for it? I guess that happened to Elaine also! I understand that she was blamed for her child's GI problems. I guess things are better than they used to be.
