Just a long shot - this condition can also be caused by excessive (frequent)

licking of lips. It's usually a compulsive thing that the person isn't even

aware of. Unlikely to be the cause here but I thought I'd throw it in.

A rash around the mouth (perioral dermatitis) high a

very high likelihood of being caused by a food

allergy.

The " around the mouth " area can extend to the folds at

the corner of the nose, down onto the chin, and out on

to the cheeks and jaw.

" Perioral dermatitis " means " rash around the mouth "

and is a descriptor, with various causes, like

" rosacea " means " rosy face/skin " and may also have

various causes. These are not diseases with specific

causes, but conditions that can arise as a result of

many (as we've seen here!).

In my experience, which involved both the rash and

flushing, etc., food allergies caused all the symptoms

-- those typically of perioral dermatitis AND those of

rosacea, including the " time of day " flushing, etc.

(In my diagnosis, my doctor sometimes used the

descriptions interchangably and I know other people

have had this happen as well.)

it's drkoop.com).

Any swelling around or in the lips/mouth should be

regarded as a serious allergy sign and it needs a

conversation with your doctor, asap. Any

swelling/itching that is accompanied by trouble

swallowing or breathing needs an immediate trip to the

emergency room.
