Guest guest
Debbie, I understood what you are trying to say and there are some doctors out there who believe similarly. The main point the doctors are trying to make is that everything they think about CP most of the time is theory. From many of the articles that I have read, they just don't understand how exactly alcohol causes some pancreatitis and others not. So their general rule of thumb is to stay away from alcohol, even in cooking, which you are evidently doing now that you know you have pancreatitis problems. There are some doctors who are looking into seeing if there is a genetic/hereditary predisposition to pancreatitis. I have mine due to pancreatitic divisum and reoccurent cases of acute pancreatitis that led to chronic. Have you gotten a good GI yet ( I can't remember if you said so in your first email)? Guest guest
<< >> Dear Debbie; I feel are correct - if you know you have pancreatitis you should not drink alcohol, nor take any medications with alcohol (i.e. cough medication), and in some people's case they cannot even eat food that has been cooked in alcohol. Now the legal stuff...this is based on the archive files from the PAI message board and is based on personal experiences and some doctor's support of them. I wanted to write and commend you for your statements. The PAI message board is a place to share from personal experience. That is what you did. Sometimes things are misunderstood...that is unfortunate, but is a fact of life. It is also true that each person's experience with pancreatitis is different - actually some people have a severe attack from such things a the smell of diesel, medication, certain foods, stress, and the list goes on. So, thank you for your post, Gail in Indiana
Guest guest
Hi DEb, How is your day?Me I'm ok.You know how docs are always telling people that smoke that no matter what is wrong with you if u smoke anymore it will hurt you, well i think sometimes since docs don't know that much about cp they blame it on drinks.Especially if they don't know why a person is having the attacks.I think the new med. books for docs is if you don't know the answer just ask the patient if they smoke or drink and just blame it on which ever the patient has done,Oh well just thought id try to make you smile. Your Friend Lola Lola Misunderstanding Debbie Slow down a little, if alcohol is a problem then stop. ********************** I guess my post was misinterpreted. I DO NOT HAVE A HISTORY OF ALCOHOL PROBLEMS NOR DO I NOW. I do not drink a drop of alcohol nor do I have an urge to drink! In fact I have a medical history of migraines - so most of my life I couldn't drink anything without getting a migraine. I would drink occasionally or socially (wine or a glass of beer). I think the point I was trying to make in a nutshell was that once you have an episode of pancreatitis we all know that ALCOHOL IS LETHAL (or am I wrong - is it only lethal to people with a previous drinking problem?) . IF YOU KNOW YOU HAVE PANCREATITIS ATTACKS then don't drink. I DID NOT KNOW I WAS HAVING PANREATITIS ATTACKS from Dec 01 to April 02!! So, I did not know to stay away from alcohol EVEN ONE GLASS. I had a total of 4 drinks from Dec to April of 02. My point is that I would have never even thought of drinking one ounce of alcohol had I known that I was having problems w/my pancreas - that was my point! And I have been beating myself up for it since. HERE IS ANOTHER POINT I WAS TRYING TO MAKE - look at all the people in the world who are ALCOHOLICS & HEAVY DRINKERS - why do only a few of this percentage of the population end up with pancreatitis? I would think because they had a predisposition to having pancreatitis and that any intake of alcohol just exacerbated the progression of the disease. I hope some of you understand what I was/or 'am trying to say. P.S. I am sorry you are having such a difficult time, ! You don't deserve it ! Debbie Mich PANCREATITIS Association, Intl.
