I'm sorry for the problems your father is having, and I'm puzzled by his

comment that " everything tastes like Tin " . I hate to be so detailed but very

few people know what " tin " tastes like, most mistake the taste of iron for

tin like a flavor from " tin " cans which is really iron. But on the chance

your father really knows what " tin " tastes like that might be a significant

difference. I suggestion questioning your father and if it's really a tin

flavor or an iron flavor it might make a difference to an interested and

knowing doctor.

If it's really iron, then I would suggest he is somehow tasting blood.

If it's " tin' then I would have no idea where that might be coming from.

Best wishes, Poncho - GA

Has anyone out there just had dry heaving spells for no reason? My

father eats practically nothing, all liquids and ice cream etc. He

doesn't get sick when he eats. He also says everything he eats

tastes like tin.

Has anyone had this same experience after being in the hospital for a

long time without eating? Pancreatitis seems to have all these side

effects. Can anyone help.

My prayers to all.

I suffered with the dry heaves for over three years!

I had them whether or not I ate.

I was in the hospital last week, and the last day I was there and for a few days

after I had dry heaves. Nothing tasted good and certianly nothing smelled good

(that was usually what brought on the DH's... smells, yuck). I hope that things

get better for your dad soon... as you learn more about the pancreatitis you

will see that each person has different problems, you will learn what triggers

things too... like me with the smells. Strange but its true.

Best wishes and many {{{HUGZ}}}

Is your father on any antibiotics? Certain antibiotics can cause a

metallic taste in the mouth, also a severe deficiency of the

vitamin B-12 will do this.

On a more serious note, I would ask if your father has had the

CA19-9 pancreatic cancer screening done while he was

hospitalized or at an earlier date? As you probably know, I have

been doing a lot of research on this subject in the last several

days. When you mentioned this new development on top of his

other complaints, bells started ringing. I checked my notes

again to verify this. Some of the signs are weight loss, loss of

appetite, jaundice and a metallic taste in the mouth. I don't wish

to alarm you, but since his pancreatitis has already been

diagnosed, you might want to check into this, too, just to be

thorough.

With hope and prayers,
