Guest guest
Hi, I am new to this group. I'm looking for info on the SCD and have read all of the websites I can find as well as BTVC. I don't have a child on the autism spectrum, but I do have two very special kiddos with their own special needs. I have a 3 year old who lives casein free, gluten free, soy free and egg free, due to food sensitivities. I also have a 21 month old who has a cardiac condition (the meds alone give you a leaky gut - let alone the other medical traumas he's endured). He also has been diagnosed with Eosiniphilic enteropathy (big name for extra white blood cells in your digestive tract due to allergies/intolerances/leaky gut.) He is currently tube fed a " hypo- allergenic " formula which is 52% corn syrup solids! EGADS! We are looking to change his tube diet over to a whole foods diet and the SCD diet may be our answer. I am celiac myself. And since reading BTVC have noticed that I do better on grain free days. We have also had positive experience for all of us with digestive enzymes. I am researching the SCD as hard as I can, since it is a HUGE commitment. And also realizing for my son it will be a long journey to even get there. I would love any feedback from anyone with experience in our type of issues. Anyone who is SCD without eggs? It seems really hard to go without eggs on SCD. Oh, also, I love many kids that are on the spectrum (I used to be an OT) and treated many and am now so fascinated by the gut-brain connection - so I am looking forward to this group. He is celiac as well. We do fine without eggs. There is a most excellent cookie recipe at the pecanbread site. I think it's called cookie cutter cookies, or something like that. I do think buying the nut flour makes a big difference when it comes to egg free cooking (versus making your own flour in the food processor - at least as far as my food processor goes). There are some things that we don't do, like pancakes and bread. I could probably figure them out, but we don't miss them. We just do a very basic meat, veggies and fruit diet with occasional treats. We've actually all gone egg free for now. They seemed to be upsetting my stomach, though I haven't isolated them yet to be sure. It is much easier on my DS3 not to see some of us eating cake in front of him that he can't have, as you can imagine. :-) This diet is great for many reasons. Welcome!
