Lorrie,

This is most reassuring news to hear that Jim is doing so well

after his surgery. I hope his incisional pain soon disappears as

he continues to heal, and that time favors him in regard to the

question of possible diabetes.

I wanted to thank you for your glowing and responsive post about

Jim's and your experiences with Dr. Sutherland. This kind of

information is extremely helpful and timely for our members who

are either scheduled for, or considering this surgery. First hand

experience and knowledge is so valuable, and it's very

encouraging to hear that Jim has been treated so with such

consideration and professionalism.

Best wishes to you both!

With hope and prayers,

Lorrie,

I sound like Jim is making good progress from his surgery. I especially like

the part of your post, whem you said that he can now eat and be pain-free. That

part alone certainly makes the surgery worthwhile. Tell Jim that your both are

in my prayers for a fast and speedy recovery.

DAY 15--Update on JIM (s/p pancreatectomy & islet cell

transfer)

Hi everyone,

Today is day 15 and Jim is doing well. All lines are cut off now

except for the morphine--they are tapering that down slowly. He's

feeling pretty good except he feels the pain more at the incision

site because it's not masqued so much with the morphine at this lower

dose. I'm not sure how long this incisional pain will take to go

away??? He had been eating a little of everything...chicken, turkey,

roastbeef, potatoes, fruit with no pain! They stopped his insulin

drip...he's had 10 units am and 8 units pm the last 2 days. He was

told that most patients go home on a little insulin for the first few

weeks. So, only time will tell about him being diabetic or not.

Again, I'll keep you all posted on his recovery.

Wishing you all a painfree day!

Lorrie,

Thank You for keeping us posted on Jim's recovery. I am so happy

for your family. I have a small idea how Jim feels being able to eat

real food. I had a celiac block 6 days ago and have been able to eat

a little bit of roast and cheese (my favorite!!!) I know that my

pancreas still isn't doing it's job in digestion so I've been taking

extra enzymes when I eat.

I'll send you a couple of new recipies I've created since being ill.

Very rich and delicious. Wouldn't try them for a couple of months to

ensure his insulin level is good and that he's recovered.

Again, I am extremely happy for the both of you. I can't wait to be

in MN in less than a month.

Peace,
